As ground-breaking work for major regeneration continues to make great progress at the St James's development, and key archaeological work continues to explore, a range of artwork has been put up reflecting the site's exciting past and future.
The colourful new artwork has been put up on hoardings around part of the site off Woolcomber Street, where the Canterbury Archaeological Trust continues to excavate, and where a new Travelodge is set to be built.
The printed panels include historic information on the area, and details of the Canterbury Archaeological Trust, as well as information on the exciting new development and the regeneration of the area.
The St James's development comprises 120,000 sq. ft. of new retail and leisure space, parking for 450 cars, and will include a M&S store, a six screen multiplex Cineworld cinema, a 108-bed Travelodge hotel, and five national chain restaurants, along with a further 12 retail units.
The panels continue the theme of earlier artwork on the corner of Castle Street, where work on the construction of eight new homes on behalf of DDC is nearing completion. This also follows news that the Russell Street Car Park is closing on 30 September to allow developers to extend the current preparatory works on site, in advance of construction works commencing.
Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council, said: "We continue to see major progress on the St James's site, with a range of key investment delivering results for the district, and as we look forward to the future, it's fascinating to understand what the history was in this part of Dover."
