A celebration was held at the Community Hub at Winchelsea Street in Dover on 17 June with a range of free activities to mark the first five months of the successful new centre for residents in the Folkestone Road area.
The hub has delivered a number of projects, from art and craft workshops to cooking sessions, and a range of games and activities. The hub is a place where residents can get information and advice from agencies, and at the same time take part in activities for young people and their families, to promote cohesion and integration.
The hub, which was launched in January, is open every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 8.30pm. The hub is funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner and led by Dover District Community Safety Partnership.
The celebrations included an event from Kent Fire and Rescue Service called 'Fire Fit', which gave people the chance for a free fun trial of what it takes to be a firefighter, using equipment and experiencing some of the tests firefighters do.
Heidi Sutcliffe from the Dover District Community Safety Partnership said: "The Community Hub project has been a great success. It was launched to bring members of the community together, and it has been a wonderful way to help people interact and have fun, and to enable them to access information and advice."
