A range of community activities is being launched by a Dover church following the completion of the first phase of a renovation scheme.
The Beacon Church in London Road has converted two former shops into a new meeting space, called Footprints, and as well as organising their own activities for people of all ages, the church is hoping other groups will use the facility.
A weekly craft group is starting this Thursday, 4 June, from 10am to noon where people are being invited to share their talents in various crafts, or even learn new skills.
A children's reading and story club is also held on Thursday afternoons, from 3.30 to 4.45pm, designed to help five to nine-year-olds to read and enjoy books.
A family craft club meets on Saturdays from 1 to 2pm giving children and their parents the chance to have fun together and a youth coffee bar operates on Saturdays from 5 to 7pm where teenagers can drop in and meet their friends over coffee and soft drinks.
The church's Friendly Friday sessions are already well established. They include lunch, games and a chance to chat, and people can call in whenever they like between 12.30 and 2.30pm.
An English language conversation group meets each Wednesday from 10.15 to 11.30am, aimed at those for whom English is their second language, enabling them to be more confident. It is already attracting people from various countries.
Coffee mornings are held from 10am to noon on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
This Saturday, 6 June, a coffee morning and table fair is being held from 9.30am to noon, giving people the chance to call in and see what Footprints has to offer.
"We hope the community will make the most of the events we are organising," said the Footprints project co-ordinator Kathleen Wilmarsh.
"It's the church's way of reaching out to people in the area, providing them with a range of activities which we hope they will enjoy and will be of benefit to them.
"We also have plans for a Cooking On A Budget course to help people to stretch their limited resources and provide healthier food for themselves and their families.
"We hope other groups will meet in Footprints, too."
Work has started this week on the next phase of the renovation work, which will provide a new reception area and storage space next to Footprints.
