Dover man to abseil 114 metre tower to help beat cystic fibrosis
A Dover man is helping to beat cystic fibrosis on Sunday (12 April 2015) by taking part in a 114 metre charity abseil in London's Olympic Park. Jamie Fox, 29, is taking part in the event to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Jamie will be abseiling with his cousin, Jamie Fagg, who also lives in Dover.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic condition - only half live to celebrate their 40th birthday. It causes the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, to become clogged with thick sticky mucus, resulting in chronic infections and inflammation of the lungs.

Jamie's health has deteriorated in the last two years, but despite this, he is keen to tackle the Arcelormittal Orbit.

"My condition doesn't stop me wanting to help raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as well as having fun and enjoying life as best I can."

With the support of his cousin, family, and fiancĂ©e Maxine, Jamie hopes to raise more than £200 for the Trust.

Jamie took on the challenge to raise awareness about his condition and to highlight his campaign work in calling for a new permanent cystic fibrosis ward at King's College hospital in London where he is a patient.

"King's hospital is not providing patients like me with a permanent new specialist cystic fibrosis ward despite years of promises to build one. We badly need one so I am doing my bit to make everyone aware of the situation."

"I wanted to do this charity event to try and give something back to the Trust for all they've been doing to help people living with this condition. I vowed I could raise a few quid to help them help others. And I saw it as a fun thing to do for a good cause."

Jamie also regularly blogs about his condition at jamiefoxcf.blogspot.co.uk, adding: "I do my blog because I try to use it as a tool to express my feelings and thoughts to show people what cystic fibrosis is like, how it makes me feel and what it's like to live with it and daily life."

Claire Phillips, Community Development Fundraising Manager for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust commends Jamie for taking on the challenge: "The money Jamie raises will enable the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to invest in cutting-edge research to develop better treatments. It will also provide support to those with cystic fibrosis and their families and help the Trust to drive up standards in medical care."
