Eco-makeover wins Project of the Year

A unique eco-makeover project for homes in Aylesham has won the Project of the Year award in the South East Regional Green Deal and ECO awards, held last week.

Dover District Council, East Kent Housing and Ecologistics won the award for the Aylesham External Wall Insulation Project. 72 council homes and 5 private homes to date have been involved in the project, to make homes warmer and more weather-resistant, and help householders enjoy lower energy bills.

The project involved council properties of a type known as 'Dorlonco', which were originally made from a fabricated kit built around a metal frame with concrete walls. The work included installing external wall insulation, covered with a protective mesh and weather-proof render. Additional works were specified for some properties, including the installation of double glazed windows and doors, French drains, and the replacement of heavy wooden door canopies with new upvc canopies.

The Green Deal and ECO awards recognise and celebrate the dedication of committed individuals and organisations who are working to implement energy saving improvements that benefit the environment.
