Energy Deal helps householders make savings

Monday, 9 March 2015
Dover District householders who signed up for the latest round of Energy Deal could save an average of £225 each over a year (based on their existing tariff and energy consumption) following an auction between energy companies.

The Energy Deal scheme was combined with a number of similar initiatives around the UK to create a collective of 30,000 households, driven by over 100 local authorities. 847 households registered through Energy Deal.

In total, 100% of people who registered in the Dover District could save on their energy bills if they choose to switch. The highest average saving was for dual fuel online monthly direct debit customers, who stand to save on average £262.81. All tariffs offered to scheme members are market beating against Ofgem averages on the day of the auction on 3 February 2015.

There is no obligation for people to accept their personal offer, but if they do the switching process is easy and straightforward and the new provider will take care of the whole process. Residents wishing to switch should ensure completed confirmation forms are submitted and received by 16 March 2015.

Dover District Council is taking part in the next campaign with the auction taking place in May 2015. Registration will open from 14 April 2015.

The Energy Deal scheme was developed by Dover, Dartford, Tunbridge Wells and Gravesham Councils, and now Tonbridge and Malling has joined the collaboration.

Filip Vissers, UK Country Manager, iChoosr Ltd said: "As our collective switching schemes become better known, we are attracting more 'Big Six' and smaller independent suppliers to compete more aggressively for your custom. There were two winners in this auction, E.ON and Scottish Power who will supply a range of contracts. All of the tariffs are market leading and exclusive to scheme members."

Throughout the registration period, people who registered from the participating Council areas were entered into a prize draw. One of the recent lucky winners was Mandy Campbell-Squier from Dover District, who said: "When trying to save money during hard times it's great to see the Council is in your corner."
