A new Community Hub has been opened for residents in the Folkestone Road area - the hub opened on Wednesday last week (28 January 2015) and the launch also included a range of activities as part of a special 'Fire Fit' event.
The Community Hub, in Winchelsea Street, Dover is a place where residents can access information and advice from a variety of agencies, and at the same time take part in fun activities for young people and their families to promote cohesion and integration.
The hub, which will be open every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, is a chance for residents to get involved with a variety of community projects. The hub is funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner and led by Dover District Community Safety Partnership.
The opening included an event from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, called 'Fire Fit', which gave people the opportunity for a free and fun trial of what it takes to be a firefighter, using equipment and experiencing first hand some of the tests firefighters do. A range of games, and arts and crafts activities were also available on the day.
Heidi Sutcliffe from the Dover District Community Safety Partnership, said: "The Community Hub project has been launched to bring members of the community together, and provide an opportunity for them to interact and gain a greater understanding of their issues."
A programme of events will be set up in the hub over the coming months, after consultation with the community and those attending the hub.
