The Chairman of Dover District Council has congratulated 19-year-old DDC apprentice Elliott Allen on his medal winning success with Team England at the World Kickboxing Union (WKU) World Championships.
Elliott competed at the WKU World Championships in Albir in Spain from 28 October to 2 November. He won Silver in the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) Patterns category, Silver in the Karate Kumite category, Bronze in the Kickboxing Point Scoring category, and Team England won Gold in the Team Light Continuous category.
Elliott Allen was welcomed to DDC by the Chairman after he started his apprenticeship earlier this year. He is completing Business and Administration courses through East Kent College, and is working with DDC's Communication and Engagement team. Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.
Cllr Sue Chandler, Chairman of Dover District Council said: "It was a pleasure to be able to congratulate Elliott on his success at the World Championships. To achieve this level of achievement requires tremendous dedication and determination. I am particularly keen to continue to encourage and celebrate the talents of younger people throughout the district, and Elliott's medal success was a great achievement."
Elliott said: "It was great to talk to the Chairman, Cllr Chandler, and to tell her about the World Championships. I've been involved in Taekwon-Do for six years now, and Kickboxing for three years. The sport is fun to do, and it keeps you fit and disciplined, and the competitions are a wonderful opportunity to meet new people from all over the world and to learn about different cultures."
