A new 48 space car park has been opened at Bench Street, Dover today to complement the major multi million pound St James's development for Dover Town Centre. The new Bench Street Car Park will provide key central parking spaces for the town as the exciting regeneration of the area continues to move forward.
The car park was officially opened by the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Chandler. The parking area includes the former site of Centurion House. The charging period is 9am to 5pm with a maximum stay of 4 hours. The facility will also feature an eye-catching new artwork, details of which are being finalised.
The opening of the car park comes as progress continues to be made on the St James's development. The retail and leisure development has already attracted investment from big name companies Next, Cineworld, M&S, Travelodge, Bella Italia and Frankie & Benny's. The development of eight new affordable residential units on the corner of Castle Street is also well underway.
Cllr Sue Chandler, Chairman of Dover District Council, said: "We are delighted to open this new car park facility, which will help to encourage people into the town centre at this exciting time. This is the first new Council car park to be built in the district for over a decade, and is a key part of the continuing transformational investment in this part of Dover."
