Christopher Moore, aged 30, of Coombe Valley Road, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court today (Friday, 24 February 2017).

The judge ordered that Moore serve an extended sentence, and would have to serve an additional 4 years on licence.

A jury found him guilty of the nine rapes following a seven day trial in January 2017. On the judge’s direction they also returned guilty verdicts on a charge of stalking and a charge of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour.

Moore strangled, smothered and punched his victim during the sexual assaults. After his victim reported the offences to police in February 2016 he sent her threatening text messages, phone calls and emails.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Dan Mead said: "Moore showed no remorse for his actions. He even threatened to kill his victim's pet dog."

Detective Constable Mead paid tribute to the victim for coming forward to report the crimes: "She showed great courage throughout the investigation and I hope this sentencing will provide some closure for her.

"Victims of rape and coercive and controlling behaviour should be reassured that we take our duty to protect victims and pursue offenders extremely seriously.

"I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of an unreported sexual offence to contact us so we can bring the perpetrators to justice."
