Help make a difference to policing in Dover

Kent Police is looking for people from diverse communities across the Dover district to join the Kent Police Independent Police Advisory Group.

The group provides a link between the police and local communities and advises the police on local issues and concerns.

Dover Community Liaison Officer Tanya Clark said: "Independent Police Advisory Groups make a real difference to policing in Kent.

"During critical incidents, like the protests in Dover last year, IPAG members provide vital advice about their communities and how they are affected, enabling Kent Police to respond appropriately and effectively."

The Dover group meets four times a year to discuss local issues and ways in which the police and other agencies can address them.

Tanya said: "The group also has an important role in helping the police support victims of crime and anti-social behaviour, encouraging witnesses to come forward and sharing feedback from communities with the police so we can help improve the work we do."

Volunteers are actively being sought from all cultures, faiths and backgrounds.

Tanya said: "We are especially appealing to members of minority groups to represent diverse communities across the district.

"Our IPAG members say that being able to represent their communities is really rewarding. I hope that will encourage others to find out how they can get involved."
