A planning application for a new £26m Dover District Leisure Centre has been submitted. The new leisure centre is proposed on a 2.1ha site in Whitfield to replace the existing 40 year old Dover Leisure Centre.
Facilities at the new leisure centre would include a competition standard, eight-lane swimming pool with spectator seating for 250 people, along with a learner pool. Other facilities would include a four court sports hall, squash courts, multi-function room, fitness gym, fitness studios, clip ‘n’ climb wall, and a café.
The plans also include two outdoor 3G artificial pitches for five-a-side football, landscaping and a minimum of 250 parking spaces.
The plans have been drawn up to RIBA Stage 3 and meet with Sport England guidelines. The centre is being designed to a BREEAM 'very good' rating. The planning application can be viewed online at www.dover.gov.uk/planning (reference: DOV/17/00305).
The application is expected to be considered at a meeting of Dover District Council’s Planning Committee in June 2017.
