Community housing grants available

Tuesday, 1 May 2018
Community groups looking to deliver Community Led Housing schemes in the area have been invited to apply to Dover District Council for grants to help their projects, as part of a new scheme that opens today (1 May 2018).

DDC’s Community Housing Grants Scheme has been launched to help community groups, with a grant pot of £50k per annum for the next two years, funded by Central Government via the Community Housing Fund.

There are two levels of funding for different stages of a project and groups can apply for one in each year:

  • Up to £3k to assist in the early stages of a project - for groups to run consultation events, attend training, engage with consultants, identify a site, evidence housing need and demand etc
  • Up to £10k for projects at a more advanced stage - for assistance with initiation costs such as surveys, feasibility studies, planning advice etc.

The funding is available to support affordable housing developments, which are truly community led, and which provide a long term benefit to the community.

This follows news that there will be a Community Housing and Self-build Conference on 28 June 2018 at Discovery Park. Community Development Officers will be on hand to help community groups who are interested in applying. Entry to the conference is free, but advanced booking is required via the Community Housing pages on the DDC website.

Cllr James Back, Cabinet Member for Built Environment said: "This is an important project, and we are delighted to be able to launch the Community Housing Grants Scheme to help community groups to get projects up and running in the area."
