Flags are set to be raised in locations across the UK and around the Commonwealth on Monday (12 March 2018) to mark Commonwealth Day - including an event at the Dover District Council offices in Whitfield from 9.50am.
The Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth initiative is inviting people to join together in a shared celebration to raise Commonwealth flags at 10am on 12 March. A personal message from the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, and a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out at each ceremony before the raising of the flag.
At the Dover District Council offices, the message will be read by the Leader of the Council, Cllr Keith Morris, and the affirmation will be read by the Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Chandler.
Cllr Sue Chandler, Chairman of Dover District Council said: "We are delighted to be taking part in this ceremony, and to be joining with so many other locations to mark Commonwealth Day on Monday 12 March."
