Yes its Priory Forum Funday time. Location Pencester Gardens and here we meet two of the main forces behind the organisation of the event, and a lovely event it is too, and growing stronger every year. Demon driver of the mobility scooter on the left is none other than Cllr Sheila Amos who we met for the first time, and the face on the right is very familiar, being none other than local legend Cllr Keith 'Keef' Sansum, deputy leader of the local Labour Party, and of course Fab Forumites the pair of them. Sheila's hat is fantastic and must be an award winner. Keith was keen to point out that the Event is run by local people raising money for their own community. The money raised goes towards local clean-ups, with the longer term plan being to raise enough money to build an extension to the Clarendon and Westbury Community Centre.
Lets hope I got all that right...however Keefs plaintive tones were competing with power band User Friendly who were blasting out 'Smoke on the Water' at the time. For those who plead ignorance in such matters, that's one of the oooolde classics from Deep Purple.
The sun was shining while Doverforum were there, although it did turn showery later, and a good crowd were enjoying the assorted stalls and tented village. The music was fantastic and I believe we missed a great earlier Buddy Holly set from local ace BuddyG. Great stuff!
'Ere whats going on 'ere. Barry Wadsworth-Smith caught on camera in the arms of famous female Jan Tranter and exchanging kisses too. Well it shouldnt be allowed and in broad daylight too! Yes its Cllr Jan Tranter, recent Mayor extraordinaire, enjoying herself at this Fab summer event. Much photographed Jan says she is busier than ever since leaving the Mayorship behind.
User Friendly giving it some welly on the left. This band played at the Dock Rock Event last year and have been great on the both occasions Ive seen them. They really got the feet thumping today or tapping or whatever it is feet do. The picture on the right shows another local legend Roger Walkden. Roger had a stall promoting his Dover Loyalty Card scheme and a lot of people were very interested indeed. Roger's enthusiasm is infectious and knows no bounds. Well done Roger.
Below is a picture from another event entirely. It shows the crowd gathered at the Multi-Cultural event in Market Sq. They had a good turnout here too. The crowd witnessed some lovely displays of ethnic dancing of all sorts and it was all both different and successful. Our man Terry Nunn did the MC again and of course he did the usual great job. There was also a third event running in St James's Church grounds. A fete, I suppose it would be called, and it was a very traditional event with again lots of people enjoying themselves. I came across this one by accident. Had no idea it was on. All these events took place within 500 yards of one another, surely the time is ripe for an amalgamation.
