Yes its true, the high maintenance girl herself.."dad can I borrrow your credit card" has finally reached 18. It's been a long and winding road but we have all got there in one piece. The picture on the left shows the long legged lady in red herself, and it was taken just a mere week or so ago, so she is in fine fettle and looking good. Off to university in the autumn she is, and struggling on from there to be a doctor with a keen interest in high level surgery.
Well I dont know where she gets those cut and thrust aspirations from, as any kind of blood and doctoring would be way toooo much for her immediate family, so she's clearly a one off! She has an interest too in people and their assorted complaints, no matter what age they are. Yes age is no barrier for Briony, nor is any kind of illness, as she has had some experience in a doctors surgery already, and wow did the tales from same make yours truly quiver and gulp, but BB never raised an eyebrow. So the medical path is clearly a vocation.
She probably wont be spending much of her future in Dover, which is a shame, as there is very little here by way of a career path. But she benefitted from the town greatly in the shape of the Dover Grammar School for Girls which saw her thrive.
Briony is 18 on Sunday (Apr 20).
And Another Glamourous Lady Celebrating her Recent Birthday This time it's Jan Tranter, a face known to many, as of course she is a former Mayor and highly active local Councillor. Jan might have seen some ups and downs recently but here she is out celebrating her famous 39th Birthday. At least she says she is 39 in much the same way as ColetteB did recently. I believe it all totally. There is something of the wide eyed innocent about yours truly of course, and hands up I am clearly very gullible in these matters. The picture was taken at the excellent Walletts Court, local country hotel and restaurant, who know how to spoil a person in fine style and surroundings. A tad expensive its true, but very nice for the special occasion.
The Chef clearly took a shine to Jan and created this named special for her ( see picture). And quite right too...we all need a bit of special treatment on our birthdays...ahem, mine isnt all that far off !!
Aaah! The Ladies who Lunch. Adeline Reidy organised a very large charity lunch at The Churchill Hotel last sunday April 13. It was a Ladies 'Do' essentially and approximately 130 people turned out to sample a very good lunch indeed with added music supplied by harpist Graham West. Graham played a selection from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Les Miserables, Romeo & Juliet, and more. ColetteB was at the event and brought us the information and picture. She declared the event a "resounding success".
The Ladies in the picture on the left are Ex Mayor Jan Tranter, Joss Stone's aunt Patricia Knight, Hotelier Margaret Gibbs and last but not least the organiser herself Adeline Reidy.
I did have the menu about my person at one time, but alas alas it has vanished quicker than last sundays vino!
Ellie
This is the latest picture of Ellie and many of you will remember we did a little feature on her in the Features section a while back. She was struggling a little bit for a while but this latest picture shows things have picked up and Ellie is progressing well. When asked by Jacqui in our Open Letters Page how she was doing, Mum Heidi said....
"thanks for asking jacqui, she is doing really well, she's 12 pound and 5 months old now! still really tiny but full of giggles, she still has to have regular check ups and a bit of physio for her neck and head but all is looking good..... ill send paul a photo in the next couple of days when i have a min to myself "
So there we are, the photo has arrived and thats it on display on the left. She looks great. Many thanks for that info and picture Heidi.
