Well I know about Cllr David Hannent's nimble feet, having seen him strutting his scintillating stuff often enough on Dover's dancefloors of delight, but this time he had to have his fingers fully nimbled up and in fast flow to capture this super picture of the squirrel on the left. Quick work is needed to get a picture like this, as our little furry friends shoot hither and tither quicker than greased lightning, but Big Dave managed it and managed to get a cracking shot for his efforts.
I am sure all our lovers of wildlife will love this one. It's true, we have had some great pictures of all things 'Nature' on doverforum and this is yet another one. Well done David Hannent..and thanks for sending it over for us all to enjoy.
Yes indeed we have gone all exotic and tropical this morning, but no we havent turned into a holiday brochure. Many of you will have been reading top member Marek's action packed reports from his adventures in Manila, and the Phillipines generally, and were they fun! The poor chap suffered almost every malady known to man followed by mishap after mishap. If you havent read it all visit the threads in our Letters Club Forum and you are sure to enjoy it. It's always great fun reading about other peoples misfortunes provided these misfortunes arent too fatal!
But of course it's not all misery and woe over there, as these pictures show. They were taken by Mareks own hand and very attractive they are too. These are just two from a fine collection of photographs. They will certainly cheer us all up on yet another rainy morning here in Dover. Is summer due here anytime soon?...time's a wasting!

We are pleased to announce that we have received a KCC Members grant of £2,000. Our thanks go to County Councillors Bill Newman and Gordon Cowan for this.
Added to the sponsorship obtained from Criccieth Homes and a grant of £500 from Dover Town Council we are assured a great weekend ahead.
Attendance at the Pencester event is totally free and provides a whole weekend of free bandstand live entertainment.
Couple coming from Canada.
At the Hellfire Corner event last year a couple from Canada found themselves in Pencester Gardens. They had arrived on a cruise ship and wandered into town instead of joining one of the organised tours.
This year they will be back. The difference is that they so loved the Hellfire Corner weekend they are making the trip all the way from Toronto specifically to attend. Of all the places they visited on their cruise they are choosing to return to Dover. This is a tribute not just to our Frontline Dover event but to the hospitality and friendliness of Dover people as a whole….
We are sure that they will enjoy this year’s event even more…
Dance Tickets
The highlight of the weekend is the ‘Big Band’ dance in Dover Town Hall featuring one of the top big bands, the Jeff Short Swing Band and singers on Saturday 14th June 7.30pm. They will be playing the music of Glenn Millar and other 1940’s greats.
This dance is under threat due to rising costs and it may be your last opportunity to enjoy this dance in an original and almost unchanged venue.
Tickets are £19.50 each and includes a buffet.

Marek in Manila

- Agreed, this is a brilliant event for everyone to enjoy and as you have said PaulB its Free to all, every year the weather has been glorious, so lets hope for the same this year. The organisers and sponsors are to be congratulated, they do a great job.

Yes it should be a great weekend. Last minute preparations are under way but mostly the hard work is done and we just have to pull it together on the day.
There are dance tickets available so do get hold of Sue. Dont miss what could be the last 'Big band' dance in Dover Town Hall, maybe in Dover.... If you have not been to one of these, dont miss out, it is an experience not to miss.... - Oh wow I love that teddy he's so cute yes will also be around for this event and the dance to, its such a well attended weekend so good luck to everyone involved and lets hope the weather is on our side to.

it used to be cross eyed, no surprise really. - The money spent on the Cable Car to the Cliffs would be better spent on fighting for a new hospital for Dover! Just imagine if it is built we could make a disaster movie out of the cable car hovering with one wire snapped, and a family and friends dangling in mid air, coming out with a load of personal problems! Colin.
- Last years event was really enjoyable with the sun beating down, it was a wonderful day out for all the family, looking forward to this year.
- I see there was good coverage of this nostalgic Hellfire Corner event in the newspapers which is great, they mentioned the horrible prospect of losing it if we dont use it...particularly the Big Danceband part at the Town Hall. Now that would be a crying shame bigtime.
As I understand it though the Pencester Gardens part of the weekend with all the music and the military vehicles and so forth is very popular. Ive been at everyone and there were always good pleasant crowds. The cost of running the Town Hall Dance has soared so a good turnout is needed there to keep the show on the road.
Oi'll be getting the oul dinner jacket out of mothballs for that one so I will. See you there! - Oh so right mr b such a good event with the big band will hopefully take a trip round the dance floor myself , so as many of you who can make it come along and enjoy.
Looking at mareks pictures this morning like to think he stowed away some of that sun and sand but looking out the window don't think so. - Welcome back Marek and what super exotic photos.....wish I was there!

The 2 photos above are of an island named Borocay.It has sandy white beaches and is a favourite haunt of middle class Filipinos who wish to have a break from the mayhem of Manila.Its an hours flight and then a short ferry trip from Manila.The air was clean and free from pollution and the nights revealed fantastic starry skies.There were a lot of girls there but I never took much notice........as the beer was so cheap.Frankie fell in love..again....for the 15th time...and promised his undying love to some young maiden.He spent one night on the beach only to find the following morning that his legs were covered in sand fly bites.Poor chap.The Doctor told him to take more protection..against the women or the flies? I asked...hehe - Tell them how much weight you lost Marek, tell em. GO ON!!!!!!
lolololololololol - OK Mandy..according to Natascha..I've lost 2 tonne....and there is still more to lose....wait to I see you this afternoon Mandy I'll get my own back..just you wait.
- Indeed a stunner of a shot by DavidH, I have tried many times for a good photo of our Connaught Park squirrels but they always see me and scurry away so fast that I can never capture a whole one in the frame.David obviously has the knack. A beautiful photo, Well Done Big David.

one of things i miss since moving from london, is the shortage of them here.
in a nice evening with the windows open, i was always guaranteed a visit from at least one of these amusing creatures.
they were a pain though, wires chewed through, and one unfortunate friend of mine ended up in casualty, when one of them mistakenly thought he had found a branch to dig his claws into.
i will say no more on the subject other than him and his wife were the laughing stock of the hospital. - Yes the more you look at that picture of the squirrel the more you realise how fabulous it is...the little thing looks like its about to leave the screen and pop down onto your keyboard..ah wonderful!..and as long as he doesnt nibble yer nuts you'll be okay!

i was surprised it never made "lancet".
