Pitman's Progress

On friday Team Doverforum powered over to the grand opening of Pitman's fab new Training Centre in Market Sq. It is always good to celebrate one of Dover's success stories and at 11am last friday we did just that in the company of Paula Elliot, the Centre Manager and Owner of Pitman Training Dover, Mayor Cllr Sue Jones, and Charlie Elphicke MP, with lots of others too. Pitman Training here in central Dover is most definitely the friendly place to improve your workplace skills and no mistake, while there we met the Student of the Year for 2010, Stacie Pettman, who can blast out 95 words per minute on the ol keyboard. Staggering skill, and not her only skill.

Without further ado I will show now the Pitman Training Press Release which was issued on the day, this gives their fuller picture...

DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR PITMAN TRAINING DOVER & LOCAL MP

The business community in Dover was celebrating today, 14th January, as Pitman Training in the Market Square officially opened their fantastic new training centre. The launch event also included the presentation of their Student of the Year Award for 2010.

Pitman Training has been an important contributor to the local economy for almost ten years now, supporting people and businesses in the area to grow and flourish. Paula Elliott, Centre Manager and owner of Pitman Training Dover said, “We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new facilities, it is so exciting for all the team and we look forward to welcoming students new and old. The new centre has increased in size to respond to the growing demands for our services and we are also now able to offer access to the training suite 7 days a week.”

Members of the public can benefit from a range of training tailored to their needs with Paula and her team, from basic PC skills through to advanced courses for Microsoft Office and Sage amongst others. Every student that comes to the centre gains access to expert advice about their career and training needs and the centre is tremendously proud of all their students’ achievements.

A recent success story is that of Stacie Pettman, winner of Pitman Training Dover’s intensely competed Student of the Year Award for 2010. Stacie, who has completed her Diploma whilst working, has just qualified as a Legal Secretary with the centre and is feeling very positive about her future prospects. Receiving her award from local MP Charlie Elphicke at the launch event she commented, “I am so proud of what I have achieved with the help and support of everyone at Pitman Training, they have been brilliant. Receiving this award is the icing on the cake and I am really hoping to do everyone proud by realising my potential when I start my new job. Thanks to Paula and the team I feel like I can do anything!”

In attendance on the day were the Right Worshipful the Town Mayor of Dover, Councillor Mrs Sue Jones. Her message this year states that Dover has many people working towards a common aim: to help the town survive the recession and come out of it ready for regeneration.

Charlie Elphicke MP, a supporter of the benefits Pitman Training brings to Dover, was delighted to accept the invitation to attend the official opening of the centre and cut a ceremonial ribbon to loud cheers from everyone present. Mr Elphicke said, “It is a pleasure to mark the occasion of the opening of the new Pitman Training centre in this way, and I am very impressed by the facilities. Training for local people is vital to strengthen the economy and Pitman Training offers great opportunities for development in Dover. Seeing a local business do well in a challenging financial climate is very impressive and I look forward to seeing this business continue to flourish.”

If you’d like to change your career for the better, Pitman Training Dover can give you the skills and confidence you need. The centre is open Monday to Saturday 0915 – 530 pm. Pop in and see us at 3 Market Square, call us on 01304 212500 or visit www.pitmandover.co.uk to find out more. ENDS

The pictures: Top shot shows all getting ready to cut the blue ribbon. Mayor Sue is a master with the scissors at this stage in her political career, having cut ribbons to almost everything. However you have to be careful where you stand when she has that scissors in her hand...she is likely to cut first and ask questions later! Fortunately we all escaped virgo intacto this time. Picture left shows Colette Boland of Doverforum. We were delighted to have her back with us, at least partially back anyway, after three months of serious illness. Early days but welcome back ColetteB. She is seen here with another longtime forumite Michelle Shepperd ( Sheli) who is Manager at CMS Recruitment also located in the same building in Market Sq. Picture right shows Charlie's advisor and PA Katy Taylor-Richards getting to grips with local journalist from the Dover Express the irrepressible Yam Zendera.
That's all Folks! PB.
