Sunrise:
This is the season for spectacular sunrises off Dover as many of you will know. Here we see the early ferry making its way through the all encompassing gloom here in Dover and heading into the glorious Sun, which is as we see hovering over Calais. Picture taken a couple of days ago and unretouched, 'twas exactly as shown. I say early ferry, but since the clocks went back it wasn't all that early..7am approximately. PB.

“Appearing at Dover’s Remembrance Concert are Wartime and Swing Duo the “Swingtime Sweethearts”. Annie Riley from Charing and Le’arna Castle from Dover have been very busy since meeting in 2006, performing at Air shows, War events, and Festivals all over the country. The girls have also performed in the Ballroom of Buckingham Palace, and St. James Palace, where they were presented to both HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Princess Royal. In December, they will be performing once again for the Not Forgotten Association Veterans’ Christmas Party in St. James Palace.
The Swingtime Sweethearts have recorded a charity single which features the Forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn, titled “Not Forgotten”. The girls were thrilled to have their song featured as the final track on Dame Vera’s latest album “Unforgettable”. Sales from the single, as well as a percentage from “Unforgettable” are raising funds for their chosen charities, for which they are both proud ambassadors, “The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy” and “The Not Forgotten Association” for the Ex-Service and Currently Serving War Disabled.
They have also been asked to help organise Dame Vera’s 95th Birthday Celebrations next year.” The special link that Dame Vera has with our town is something to be treasured forever. She is a truly wonderful lady who gave so much hope and comfort to those living through the worst years. It is an honour and privilege to know her and we have grown a very real fondness for her.”

CHILDREN’S COMPETITION
DESIGN THE MAYOR OF DOVER’S CHRISTMAS CARD FOR 2011
“SPIRIT OF DOVER AT CHRISTMAS”
Dover Town Council are launching a children’s competition to design a Christmas card for the Town Mayor of Dover, for 2011. We ask that all designs are received by the 18th November 2011.
The competition is open to all children and will be judged in age classes;
· 4 – 6 years of age
· 7 – 10 years of age
· 11 – 13 years of age
· 14 – 16 years of age
There will be one winner from each class selected and then one overall winner. This winning design will be digitally printed as The Town Mayor of Dover’s Christmas card for 2011. All winners however, will be invited to have tea with the Mayor (at a convenient date) and the opportunity to meet members of the cast of the Marlowe Theatre’s pantomime “Cinderella”, who will be assisting the Mayor in switching the Town’s lights on at the Christmas event being held on Saturday the 26th November 2011.
It is recommended that the design of the card should be prepared on an A4 sheet of paper, folded to make an A5 size, then the design of your choice, whether in portrait or landscape design. The theme of the design for the card is “Spirit of Dover at Christmas”.
The completed work should be sent to The Offices of Dover Town Council at Maison Dieu House, Biggin Street, Dover, Kent, CT16 1DW, addressed to Tracey Hubbard, Management Process Officer. Please kindly print your name, address, telephone number, name of School that you attend along with your age, clearly on the back of the card. Please do not write anything directly on the back of the design as it may interfere with printing if you are the lucky winner, also please do not staple anything to the design as again this may affect how the design is printed. Thank you.
The competition will be judged on Monday the 21st November 2011, by the Town Mayor of Dover, the Deputy Mayor of Dover and a representative from the selected contractors, who will be printing the winning design.
Thank you and we hope to see contributions from as many of the local children as possible.
