More on Launch of new Service.
We have just had these very professional and striking pictures through from DFDS and very attractive they are too. They show model and actress Kelly Brook launching the new DFDS/LD Lines service from Dover to Calais last friday. Here she is flirting outrageously with a very willing seaman Capt Chris Roe...and heavens..even pinching his cap for further posing.
As we mentioned previously the service got off to a flying start last friday February 17 when the Norman Spirit set sail at around 1pm from Dover's Eastern Docks amid great champagne cork popping excitement. All seem to agree...it is wonderful to have another option for our continental travel following the demise of the popular Seafrance. The Norman Spirit will work hard, making FIVE sailings per day, and will be joined by a second ship in due course. Which ship and when?..well we dont know. But could it be one of those attractive Seafrance vessels now languishing sadly and bleakly in Calais harbour? Time will tell.
All pictures of Kelly Brook are by PA

Youth Unemployment Rises in Dover District
As unemployment nationally hits its highest level since 1995, the Conservative-led government is creating a jobless generation throughout Dover district.
Commenting on the very recent unemployment statistics, Cllr Gordon Cowan, Labour Leader of the Opposition on Dover District Council, says:
“These figures confirm what young people in Dover District already know – that this Government is creating a jobless generation. Long-term youth unemployment in the Dover constituency has risen by a shocking 282%. Our young people have been left to pay the price of the Conservatives’ failures.”
Across the country long-term youth employment has doubled in the last 12 months. The increase in Dover’s long-term youth unemployment is in excess of that.
Labour’s Shadow Cabinet member for Finance, Mike Eddy pictured left, says:
“The government has been raising taxes and cutting investment too far and too fast. And the Conservatives locally have been doing everything possible to back them with their extra stealth taxes on drivers and gardeners. But they are failing on jobs and on the economy. Nationally borrowing has gone up by an eye-watering £158 billion and over a million young people are on the dole.”
Labour has proposed a tax on bankers’ bonuses to fund 100,000 much needed jobs for young people.
The above is a Labour press release.
