More changes to the
Political Landscape.
Information just in from the Labour Group.....
Labour leadership changes.
Cllr Ben Bano is stepping down as Leader of the Labour Group of Dover District Council, following his election as Mayor of Deal. Cllr Gordon Cowan has been elected as Leader, and Cllr Mike Eddy as Deputy Leader.
Ben Bano said ‘It’s been a privilege to have been Leader of the Labour Group over the last three years and we have provided a focused and constructive opposition. But I want to devote my energies to making sure that I serve the people of Deal in the best possible way. I would like to extend my best wishes to Gordon on his appointment as Leader.’
Gordon Cowan said ‘I would like to thank Ben for the commitment he has given as Leader of the Group over the last three years. The coming year will be tough. We will fight hard to protect and champion the interests of the people of the District in the face of Conservative cuts in services, and I look forward to leading the Labour Group in that fight.’ (Ends)
Picture shows a couple of longtime Labour political bruisers..yes the New Leader himself, Gordon Cowan on the left, seen here with one time Labour frontranker and tip top forumite Keith Sansum. We welcome Gordon as the new leader. There can be no doubt that some fresh impetus and drive was needed in this all new political climate and Gordon will provide that. Good Luck to Ben Bano in his new role.
Also some blue news... Not Official but filtered in through the grapevine:
Bernard Butcher is to continue as Chairman of Dover District Council but here is a surprise...vociferous forumite Sue Nicholas is to be Deputy Chairman. Hopefully this wont either knobble or silence our Susan!
