The Pencester Weekend: Boat Race. Sunday July 5.

The hands on Mayor! Yes it is great to see our lovely Mayor Sue Jones in there amongst the kids sorting out their paper boats for the magnificent London Road Community Forum Boat Race. This event, a nice little thing for kids everywhere, was almost extinct, but the brave bods of the LRCF stepped up to the plate in an effort to keep it going. And here you see the result. Today Sunday it shared the Park with the Horticultural Show and a very busy Park it was too....and very colourful as you can see from the pictures. The weather was excellent once again..the Gods must be smiling on Dover as all our recent events have been sunkissed.
Sundays Pictures were taken by ColetteB, saturdays pictures by yours truly PaulB.

The chap with Mayor Sue Jones on the left is local radio presenter Johnny Lewis. Johnny was there covering it all with microphone in hand and enjoying the spectacle for the first time. The pic on the right is that well know local website owner, I speak of course of Maggie Stephenson-Knight, head of the Dover War Memorial Project and its relative website. The other guy also owns a website..yes its yours truly PB. Maggie is clearly dazzled by the Daz induced whiteness of my M&S shirt! Nice to see Maggie and Simon again.

Champing at the Bit. Yes all the kids are primed up waiting for the off. Tension mounts in the hot hot sun. Boats are all prepared, and although minus engines, are clearly revved up and ready to go. In the water below, waiting pensively just out of shot, is that well known water vole of repute Ian Croc Lillford. His guiding hand is prepared for every eventuality, yes he is ready to retrieve the unfortunates who run aground, or even those who capsize into the murky dark depths. No one today was harmed by the experience , least of all our man Croc!

In this picture we have from left to right Former Mayor and all round jolly egg Bob Markham, a sunkissed Bob was there enjoying it all and as ever in very good form. In the centre we have current Mayor Sue again and on the right is popular Mayoress Ronnie Philpott who is one of our best organisers. That's a particularly attractive boat Ronnie has there!

Priory Forum Funday:Saturday July 4.

Hot Pencester Pix July 4: Just some quick pictures to upload following a visit to the Priory Forum Funday in Pencester saturday morning July4. Here we have a brace of councillors taking the light summer breezez in glorious Pencester. L to R. Deputy Mayor Jan Tranter who made a short speech to open the event. Next to Jan at rear is Cllr Roger Walkden who has been doing some fine work recently promoting Dover to our French friends across the channel. Next to him is jovial Cllr Mick Smith. Very foreground is Cllr and organiser Sheila Amos, who tears around organising on her little motorised vehicle. Then last but not least Cllr Anne Smith. Very pleasant group of guys and gals.Pillars of community life.

Its a fine musical event...on the left is our ol friend and forumite BuddyG knocking 'em dead in the aisles. Rock on Buddy! Then on the right we have Roger Walkden again, this time giving Jan Tranter a whirl around the imaginary dancefloor, to the sound of the 1950's beat. A good crowd was building up as we left.
