Well, thank goodness we're agreed on something, Barry!

05:2935371Gwyn Prosser has always been adamantly opposed to privatisation of the port and has demonstrated that he is a man of principle.
Charlie Elphicke also states that he is opposed to privatisation. However, he is an adviser to the prospective future Conservative government and has advocated privatisation of the Royal Mail, describing the funds from this sell off as a "get out of jail" card. How is it possible for him to view flogging off one last remaining portion of our family silver as desirable and yet not another?
Could it be that he would be enthusiastically supportive of auctioning off the Port of Dover were it not for the fact that he is standing as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Dover at the next election and is keenly aware that the electorate has already shown that it is overwhelmingly opposed to the sale of the port and that he would accordingly not stand the remotest chance of being elected were he to be seen to support privatisation?

08:2835379Ed - It is possible and quite reasonable for someone to differentiate between privatisation proposals and make valued judgements. Mrs T, for instance, was against the privatisation of Royal Mail and it is now known that she stopped one of her Ministers from doing it.
GP is simply ant-privatisation full stop - he admitted at the last General Election that he was 'Old Labour'. That doesnt mean he cant be pushed into the 'right' lobby by the whips of course. The fact is that GP has zero influence and is being treated with contempt by his own Government being kept in the dark about things being done in his own constituency.

08:3135483As usual barryw you have your facts incorrect
Gwyn is not left as in the term i understand, but never the less he has and still does oppose the privatisation of the port, and its right he should do so.
like howard stated it would have been nice to hear views of charlie on the DHB workers at the time and since but little said by charlie on this.
there is no doubt charlie boy and our barryw are trying to political point score, but the people are wise and already seen through it

10:0135488Really, Keith - it was well reported in the local press that GP claimed to be 'Old Labour', the term I used, not left, in a Trade Union meeting in or just before the 2005 election. My facts are quite accurate.
