Have just returned from Musselburgh in East Lothian and came across a street called Short Hope Street and it has just two buildings in it. one an old folks home and the other a funeral director. How apt unless you have just moved to the old folks home.

Certain politicians are all in Shit Street.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
Colin, I was about to reproach you then realised you couldn't say Queer Street.

Ok so it was slightly altered by the local kids, but I discovered this one in Essex. It made me laugh though!

Really Ross, Bridge Street does indeed have a bridge. It's right next to Dover's own wilderness and wildlife santuary, i.e. the River Dour at Charlton Green. You refer to New Bridge.
By the way, When the new police hq was built in Essex a poll was held to name the road leading to it, Letsby Avenue was the clear favourite. It was eventually renamed however, I can't think why!

I love the Sandwich street names. So atmospheric!
Knightrider Street, Seven post alley, Moat Sole, King Street (formerly Lucksboat Street), Paradise Row, The Chain, Privy Quay (well, that's what it used to be called in Medieval times, and could be appropriate today!) Delf Street, Strand Street, Fisher Street, Potter Street (used to be a pottery there), and just not to confuse the two Church Streets, viz Church Street St Marys and Church Street St Clements ! New Street (which is very old); and of course not forgetting Holy Ghost Alley !! And No Name Street and Windy Corner !!

Even the Wantsum has a good ring to it! (Also Sandwich). And even New Bridge does have a bridge, albeit a bit further along, since the Dour "flows" behind it.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
A place near to where I grew up was well known locally as the spot to go to for sex education! It was called Painters Lane, but I don't want to gloss over its reputation!

No upper crust Sid, we both lived in terraced houses, two up and two down, no bathroom and toilet in the backyard.

We,ve got some lovely road names in Dover: Maison Dieu Road, from French, means House of God Road; it intersects with Dieu Stone Lane and Saint Mary's school, which I used to attend. We've got Christchurch Court, without a church, and Townwall Street with with something much more effective than a wall to keep people from crossing it!
