13:5012950I think that David Cameron is facing a turning point [maybe even a crisis] in his stint as Tory party leader. He is facing a resurgent government and his frontbench appeared to have gone awol. There is talk of him bringing back David Davis and Ken Clarke which may cause as many, if not more, problems than they solve. Then there is party discipline from his MPs and, with an EU poll in June, MEPs. Can they be kept in check? The idiot who dressed up as Maddy McCann is relevent as this behaviour makes people think that is the way many of Cameron's party members carry on behind closed doors and while that is probably not the case it adds to an unheplful image.
The big problem I see for Cameron, aside from a lacklustre frontbench before and after a reshuffle, is if he feels he isnt getting his message across and starts to slip in the polls. He may then resort to Plan B as did William Hague and Michael Howard and turn his attention to appeal to his core vote, this will please certain sections I'm sure but it may frighten off voters as happened in 2001 and 2005.

14:1212955Sid,
Idon't think DC knows yet which direction to go, he has his right wing members waiting to slay him,
on the other hand he knows the ultra right of his party won't get him elected.
Hes had his im fluffy nice DC period
Now people are waiting to see if he has any real backbone
trouble is peopl now getting fed up of waiting.
He will lose election another leadership election follow soon after, tory party go back to its right wing base and become unelectable

14:3312957Your two dont seem at all in touch with what is really happening.
I suggest that you keep in touch via politicshome.com to find out more about what is happening.
I wont bother to give a line by line rebuttal because it is simply not worth the time. All I will point out is that all of the three most recent polls indicate, as expected, that the Brown bounce has been reversed.
Two or three more polls this weekend are expected to confirm that.
Dont you worry your little heads about what DC is doing or about the Conservative front bench, they are head and shoulders above the pigmies on the Labour front bench.

15:0312966I did not ask some time ago if anybody could name 6 members of the Conservative Front Bench, excluding Cameron and Osborne. Fraid I got no response. Says everthing about the Conservatives , no policies and no interest.

00:2613153As I said on this thread on 16 January, Ken Clarke is coming back to the shadow cabinet and this may well prove to be a turning point. Clarke is a bit hitter compared to the non-entities on the Tory frontbench it is true but already the right are condemning the move and so is one of their biggest donors, is his name Wheeler?
The two wings of the Tory party have been tolerating each other for the past couple of years but this move may see an outbreak of civil war especially in a year of a european election, with Clarek being pro-europe and most within the party not being so keen.
