22:2333125View from outside the breakwater at 0900 this morning. On our next return it had increased a lot and was blowing up to storm force ten and the port was closed. We were stuck outside for several hours and then were number six in the queue to enter. Eventually got alongside about 2000. Two chaps had joined in the morning for one round trip to service the lifts so had been onboard all day!

10:4834061As we approach the end of the month, it`s been an interesting one for the weather. All that mildness, lots of rain and sunny days too. 09.02 this morning, lightning and loud claps of thunder, followed by a downpour of hailstones, with the sun bursting through. No frost here yet. Wonder what December holds. (Working yesterday, so missed all else).

17:2534084On a slightly more serious note; what we get locally isn't always British weather. We seem to have a bit of a micro-climate down in this corner with more than a little influence from across the Channel. The effects seem to cover a relatively small area from around Ramsgate to the Romney Marsh and it's for this reason that I tend to look to the Shipping Forecast to find out what the day's weather is likely to bring - and it often differs from the local land-lubber's forecast.
King Canute tried, and failed, to direct the weather so what hope has some muppet in Brussels got!
I'll stop now as I can almost hear the RISING TIDE of protest and the GALES of laughter!

17:4034086good thinking phil, i will start to check out the shipping forecast.
incidentally, the real spelling of that danish king's name was cnut, i often wonder if our local population at the time misunderstood this when the tide came in?

17:4834087Nice one Phil, which reminds me. As well as the weather, the eurocrats can never destroy the British sense of humour either.

18:1634089How about this for a right Gale of Laughter...the Fred Olsen Cruise line company is in the harbour right now, its ship all lit up as I write like a nuclear powered Christmas Tree and planning no doubt to take some unlucky sods off for a cruise...in this weather!!
Strewth! the Brits are clearly a nation of masochists. Its blowing a howling gale of the force 8 or 9 variety and all isnt well out on the ocean waves. But look on the bright side...you get a free bucket and rehydration pack with every ticket!
Perhaps its a free trip for those that had the Norovirus earlier in the year. Once more onto the breech dear friends...

19:4934091i have no idea why people want to go on a cruide in winter, i always associate cruising with sunbathing and enjoying life on deck.
the odd bit of shark fishing off the side, followed by a marathon eating and drinking session to finish each day.

17:3734694It was still a tad chilly despite the sunshine. I gather we may be in for a couple of days of the bright stuff but I'm not holding my breath!
Nice pictures though Colin.

18:0934697Thanks Phil. A contrast to Paul and Ed`s lovely pictures above. The sea is always great what ever the mood it`s in. I hear a cold snap for the coming weekend.

18:5634703Thanks Howard. I thought maybe Vic or a few others would have used this nice weather for a bit of a Boxing Day warm up. All that empty beach.
