10:4135106At a recent meeting and at Dover Town Council this idea was dicussed .Early days yet but it is in the bigger picture .Moving the buses into York Street .
Personally I think its a cranky idea .York Street very busy road .One can imagine standing there witrh bags of shopping waiting for the bus .
Currently Pencester is ideal as you are not to far from shops ,banks etc and if buses are delayed cafes nearby .
In the Summer you can watch events that are being held in Pencester Gardens .
IT will go out to consultation but I have voiced my opion .I maybe a lone voice but its quite loud .
I have always maintained Pencester Road should be for buses only but I know that is not popular with the motorists .

11:5435109Not sure that having Pencester for buses only is such a good idea as the alternative is through the Market Square.
Moving the buses from Pencester to York Street is a non-starter in my view too.

12:3435111Totally ridiculous. Pencester is far from ideal as a bus station but it's the best there is at the moment. Ashford has the same problem only worse. Local buses use one road and inter-town buses use another. Only Canterbury and Folkestone have "proper" bus stations.

14:0735128pencester is not the natural home for bus users, the stop near the disused office is a disaster.
no room for people to get off safely, due to the presuure of people at the bus stop, if they step back they risk ending up in the river.

17:1135135york street has one yes one bus stop, not in use but there all the same.it could be put to better use,ie,an aycliffe bus passes it four times an hour plus a 63 when ever it comes from the market square.

17:5435138Brian I have requested that the Aycliffe bus stops there if only to pick up some of the ederly from Gorley and Albany House .
We are talking about a lot of buses using York Street and we would have to walk there with our shopping .The port buses only use that stop.
I think Marks and Spencer would suffer .I suppose you can use Somerfield and cut up behind the Musuem but its still a walk .They are trying to encourage bus use ,This would not be an improvement .Still with the cable car and big screen we should not moan .

18:4735142i am always surprisead that the 61 and 68 buses do not stop there as they pass.
that stop was only used by the KCC buses until recent times, the port bus has only stopped their officially for a year or so.
not sure of the connection between the cable car, big screen and the buses though.

20:0235149Seems to me that the culture who have altered Dover over the years, and wrecked it in the process, have now been replaced by a similar culture, and to justify their existance, are now wanting to continue where their predecessors left off. All these daydreamers are doing is moving A to B and gaining nothing. Leave the buses in Pencester where they`ve been for years and years with no problem. Go and have another cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit, but leave Dover alone. Sort out it`s current problems what everyone is discussing on here without creating anymore.

21:0035160The big screen Sue is not a tourist attraction, and never will be. As for the cablecar, why not buy the one at Folkestone, and let it rust away in Dover instead. Placing the buses in York street, is the equivalent of the Victorians building the railway stations a mile or so from the actual town.

22:0435162They are having a joke aren't they.? As a non driver and regular bus user leave well alone. As Terry Nunn says Pencester is not ideal but it is the best we have got. I wonder how many of those councillors use the bus.?

22:2435163i do not think that a victorian water balanced lift and a cable car are in the same league.

23:2935165Alec when i spoke at the meeting where this idea was presented I.did ask how many councillors use a bus .I think out of a dozen or more councillors plus eight or so officers I was the only one
My comment re the cable car and big screen it appears that is what we are supposed to be thankful for .Every day things like public transport ,toilets and clean street are of littlw importance ..

09:2435181York Street is a non-runner if enough people voice their opinion - but voice it they must.
As has been previously stated, Pencester Road may not be ideal, but it works and works quite well alongside the motorists who appreciate the need to drive slowly up there; it must have one of the best safety records around considering its use by cars, buses and pedestrians - all together.
Maybe some of the squash from people leaving buses and those queueing to get on, would be alleviated if the bus stops/shelters/path were to go slightly (and I mean just slightly) into Pencester Gardens, so there'd be more room; if only by 2 or 3 metres it would help.

Yes although not ideal pencester is best option at moment
york street just not suitable.
I also have to catch bus from pencester at bus stop howard mentions, and it is a tight squeeze, but often thats because people are to impatient to let people off bus.
iv heard drivers shout let the people off, most people crowd at the bus stop where as if they moved more into the shelter bit area there would be more room.
