10:3613069I am not comfortable myself with the prospect of fewer MP's. This is part of that awful drift towards regionalisation. You see it on the news programmes on TV, when we here in Dover have to look at stories concerning Brighton every other day. It a pretty miserable experience trying to show concern for the various plights of those living in Brighton when we have our own problems here and we want to see these covered on TV News.We want a voice.
We wouldnt for example want an MP with too wide a remit. We want a person that sympathises with our problems, we dont want to be overshadowed by other more prosperous towns who could push us out of the pecking order. This could happen if an MP had too far a field to cover. Im probably exagerating my case here to make the point but you get my drift

11:0213080I agree paul we donot need less MPS the areas they cover are vast .When the DDC member numbers were cut it increased the areas members cover greatly .It is ok in a Town area but if you cover a rural area not so jolly .Take me old mate Nigel he can cover his area far more quickly than I can.We need the local input .What would a MP covering Folkestone and Dover and Deal know about Preston in the Northern Parishes or going the other way the Romney Marsh. Its impossible to cover such vast rural areas with one MP .
Talking of costs how many of you have picked up that cabinet members on DDC have taken a pay cut .£1000 each, and the work load is increasing .On another trhread I talked about a train service I was in Guildford last Thursday hoping for more money to come Dovers way .

as nigel has a much smaller area to cover than you, therefore having time on his hands, i hope that he ensures that your dinner is on the table the minute you get home.

20:4613126I still think the number of M.P. should be cut down by 100seats and some of the meetings done by both our councils and they can cut down also on their committees saving more funds.

09:5213186I dont fink reducing numbers of MP's the answer, make them more accountable(thats a big taSK)
would worry if Dover MP had even bigger area to cover already to big.
payouts yep far to high and salary as well.
Idea again not fort out by DC
