went through the charlton centre earlier and have to say it looked superb, units filled and brightly lit with christmas decorations decking the middle. these 2 photos don't do it justice, footfall was poor sadly due to the strong winds and the rain precipitating down outside.

Why is the charlton Center keeping one of the main enterances at the back constantly closed isnt this a health and safety and fire risk as there is nothing at all wrong with the door as i saw it open yesterday for contractors 8/01/2013 so why has it been closed for over 8 months?

I assume you mean the carpark entrance from Wood Street, the Shopping Centre rear entrance has always been open when I go there.

I asked the centre manager why the doors were closed and he told me that because there are no longer car parking attendants they have had problems with drug addicts using that end.
I also asked him what was happening about the proposed flats above the Charlton Centre and about the entrance, an architect is due soon and the entrance to them would be near Blockbusters.

Thanks for the response Jan why if it is known about the Drug addicts using that end, that no CCTV has been installed and the police not dealing with it. I live on Maison Dieu Place and have constantly reported issues going on in this area and was told by the police that there has to be a number of complaints for CCTV to be installed here yet drug dealing goes on in plane view along with vandalism to which the police know about and have for years but no CCTV and if your lucky you now might get the police turn up in 3 days when they can be bothered

I also asked the caretaker after a week of it being shut when it was going to reopen and he told me that there was a fault with the door and didnt know so why all the different stories but i must admit i to have seen the drug addicts hang around there

The owners would prefer the entrance to be open but will not pay for extra staff and I suspect that is also the reason for no CCTV, cost.
