Our daughter has just broken out in Chicken Pox (apparently theres an epidemic of it in Dover at present) I have soaked her in Bicarb of Soda, covered her in Calamine lotion, she's taken calpol for her headache and temperature and anti histermenes for the itchyness. Her nails have been trimmed and she is wearing gloves and loose baggy cotton clothes(mine... as her and her mother now share clothes!!).
Is there anything or any old wives tales or remedies that any forumite can pass on to me?
No boiling of toads or crows feet recipes please..lol

But do give my love and wish Natascha a speedy recovery.

In a very old book, handed down to me from my mother, the hints for Chicken Pox and many other childhood complaints, she and I used this book many times, if there is much irritation bath in boracic lotion night and morning, one ounce to a gallon of water

I have a terrific old wives tale Marek.
Are you sitting comfortably?? Then I shall begin.
The best old wives cure for chicken pox is to make sure your daughters carni mum has spring rolls made for her on a regular basis.

I'm sorry to hear she's ill, Marek. Chicken pox is a horrible scratchy thing - I can remember to this day when I got it! I did read that baths with oats in can help with the itchiness, but I can't help feeling that could end up rather messy.
When my eldest got it, it affected her internal organs too, and she became temporarily deaf. (Please don't think I'm being a scaremonger!! It was VERY short-term, and my other two daughters were fine afterwards - no problems at all.) I'm just saying this because we found that one of the teachers at my eldest's school became rather impatient when she went back - none of us had realised, and the teacher hadn't known that my daughter couldn't hear what she was saying. So it's just an extra thing to be aware of, just in case.
Best wishes to poor Natascha, and I hope she bounces back soon.

Ah Marek, Chickenpox, I hope that Natascha will soon be up and about, as we all know it is a very uncomfortable time, at least you don't have another little one standing in the wings to double the incubation period, as I recall my two girls going down with it one after the other.
xxx to Natascha
Ditto our four Colette!!!! Ah, those were the days!!!

there was an outbreak in london about 7/8 years ago.
hit adults more,as they had not had it as kids, due to routine immunization.
hope the little girl recovers quickly.

This weekend see the DCAL crew off to Sheppey on Saturday after a quick pic with one Gloria Hunnibun, and then on Sunday we are at neighbours Folkestone.
Hopefully the girls will keep up their current winning streak.

I am getting better at using my camera each time I use it. For such a small gadget, it sure does take a great photo. Caught a fab one of Junior Mss Dover and one of her princesses on the ghost train at hastings on saturday. Totally captured their terror perfectly lololol.
The pic I got of you and the girls Sue is a good one. One of my favourites.
