It's a shame Ms Hawkins has lost a lot of credibility by being imposed on the Labour party
In a marginal this will lose her votes

It is a fair enough appraisal of the present state of things, an overview and a little bit of a gloss.
As this Bob Wright has it, what is there to disagree with, so Clair agrees, as would all who visit this Forum, and there's the rub.
All can agree to agree, all well and good. It may be that the efforts of Ross Miller and David Little will, as catalysts, meet somewhere near the centre of town and cause a bursting forth of popular pro-activism.
In the meantime the 'powers that be' will make splash after splash, CV-enhancing announcement upon CV-enhancing announcement and leave the locals in bewilderment as to whether anything tangible has been done.
Perhaps though, it is for the likes of Ms. Hawkins to have more to say about what she and the Political Party she represents are themselves doing to energise and enthuse the local populace (electorate) and what real initiatives her Party's councillors have in train?

Good post Tom.
We rotate from blue to red in Dover, it doesn't make the slightest difference to the town. Clare will have good intentions but will be totally controlled and managed from HQ as Charlie is

Firstly David, your assuming Claire will win, that's a maybe
unfortunately being parachuted in hasn't helped her cause
Tom makes some interesting points.
Whoever represents Dover can make a difference its whether they choose to

Keith I'm assuming nothing, I'm simply saying that neither Clare nor Charlie will make any difference at all.hat
It would help if you actually read what I write

The heading on her website states boldly "Dover deserves better" adjacent to a photograph of Clair Hawkins.
I think that just about sums it up.

you are partly correct

And I added why she may not

[I beg your pardon Lesley, twas I that served-up the 'sprouts' this time.

]
In a real sense it should not matter one whit who 'wins' party-wise, the denizens of Dover & District MUST always be the victors.
It is a sad fact that as yet Politics=Politicians when it should be Politics=People. The overviews should be left to the people on the ground and the statements of
intent should come from those who wish to garner the votes.
Whichever takes the Seat, whichever has the majority on the Council
progress should be forthcoming.
-What happened to the ban on high-octane lager/cider?
-Have road-sweepers begun to follow the bin-men?
And what hope is there that temporary use can be found for empty shops when the Council demands so much from the prospective tenants of their own properties?

Idealism is great BUT you can't keep cutting budgets if you want progress. Investment from whatever source needs to be coordinated at the highest level to achieve maximum outcomes from minimum resources. Sadly, money is key and always will be.

Correct Lesley, in our case inward investment is vital.
A succession of administrations have failed miserably to attract any, I see nothing to suggest why Clare will be different

When I was working for SEEDA / DDC on the SRB schemes we managed to more than double our budgets by pulling in additional investment. The money, tho less of it, is still out there and just needs well researched business plans to draw it down. Again it comes back to determination and vision to succeed.
