curiouser and curiouser, some interesting comments there sidestepped by "cats in crisis". these 2 made a lot of play about being the only local charity shop in dover, despite age uk and pilgrims hospice being here.
jan rightly points out that charity shops normally sell "rags" not buy them.

Maybe a privately owned second hand business can open as a charity shop, for example they can use the charity name and logo etc but only having to give a percentage of their takings to the charity, then they still qualify for all the benefits associated with opening such a shop.I,ve known of a similar situation at outdoor events and shows. Some traders were using various charity names with permission hence they got free or reduced rents and the amount they actually gave to the charity was very minimal.

Andy B, that is how the Heart Foundation shop in Market Square operates, I have been told only 5p in the £ goes to the charity.
I am not saying there is anything dodgy but maybe Cats in Crisis do not know about their name being used, if the charity knows nothing about the shop a visit from Trading Standards or police might be in order.
