The picture above shows the moment the defence team heard the verdict, as shown by Sky News. You can see the lawyers heads sink....their efforts crushed. I watched a lot of the trial and I personally would not have held the doctor responsible, not have found him guilty in other words...but then I always see the guys on trial as innocent. It must be a flaw in the personal makeup.
Doctor Murray remained dignified throughout the trial and as his defence lawyer said in summing up...
"would he have been here on trial at all if the victim had NOT been Michael Jackson"
which was a very solid point.
Anyway the guilty verdict has come in, all jurors found him guilty, not a majority verdict...all 12 went for guilty.
There was as ever the usual unsightly over-emotional and over-frantic people outside the court celebrating the guilty verdict. Women weeping, women fainting, which just strikes one as ridiculous. Banners stating Dr Murray Killed Michael Jackson etc. As in previous cases of similar nature, these celebs generally play a huge role in killing themselves.

There are echoes of the OJ Simpson case about this, more to do with fan worship than justice. Maybe the doctors family will now sue the Jackson estate for distress and effectively overturn the verdict.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Am I the only one who does not care one iota about this case? nothing in the Jackson world was remotely normal!

I agree Martin, as a human being, Michael was not "normal" (who is ?).
To my mind though, as an entertainer, he was brilliant - I loved hearing and seeing him perform.

Well thats right...Im afraid Michael Jackson lost touch with real life, or normal life, a long time ago....so not much sympathy there, other than from diehard fans and there still are many it seems. The estate is destined to earn ever more money.
However the trial was fascinating in a sort of slow burning way...each detail had an element of the gripping about it. One expert making this case, the alternate expert making the other case, and so on. Hugely learned professors, hugely knowledgeable, yet still managing to disagree about drug intake and the ramifications of same.
One thing which I thought was so unusual to the UK eye...was the sight of the Sheriffs coming over and putting handcuffs on the Doctor moments after the verdict was announced. They handcuffed his hands behind his back which struck me as somewhat brutal and almost an infringement of human rights. He was unlikely to flail out at anyone. Very calm guy. It looked like total overkill.

Paul,
Is this the 'closure' the Americans ever seek?
I await the wisdom of the family to correctly apportion blame.

all very american and dramatic, i cannot see how they can secure a conviction when the experts cannot agree whether the doctor adminstered the dosages correctly.
the handcuff bit was pure theatre and nothing to do with justice.

The doctor on Breakfast this morning said that as he was a cardiologist he should not have been administering those drugs in the first place and Jackson should have been receiving drug dependency treatment. She also said some of the soldiers with horrific injuries would not be on the cocktail of drugs that Jackson was allowed to take.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

With the doctor facing 4years I truely doubt we will ever know the true story of what happened, having seen Micheal Jackson on two occassions live he was a brillant entertainer, but one cann't help wondering if being pushed into the life style of the entertainment world so young took away any childhood he may have had.

I also saw the handcuff debacle on the news this morning, as you said PaulB Brutal and overkill.
But when it comes down to it he was his Doctor, he shouldn't have prescribed those drugs in the first place for Michael Jackson to become dependant on.
