Just popped on to say a Huge Thanks to Graham Tutthill & photographer Chris for the splendid write-up & photos in this week's edition of the Dover Mercury, well done guys

Hopefully the Dover Express will follow suit this coming Thursday as their photographer Andy was in the park taking photos last Monday

We are there again tomorrow morning at 10am sanding down the rest of the benches, we have completed four so far. It's a bit long winded doing it by hand & I've discovered muscles in my upper arms that I never knew were there. Still good for, what do us women call them, oh yes I know, 'bingo wings' They should be nicely toned by the time we finish Then we can get on with the painting. Anyone free with an hour or two to spare, then please come & join in or if not tomorrow, just give me a call or drop me an email when you can help out

Happy to report that our benches are now sanded down & ready for prepping, then painting. Many thanks to Cllr Pat Sherratt, Linda Hannent & Stuart Reed for their help this week in getting to this point, Phew!

Anyone free & handy with a paint brush are very welcome to join in tomorrow morning at 9.30am Free another time, then get in touch with me.

It won't be long now until we can start planting lots of pretty flowers, only a week or so to go before the nurseries release the plants. Designs are done & passed, so once again anyone free & willing to help, then get in touch with me.We will need to get the plants in the ground as quickly as we can so the more hands on deck the better

Just thought I'd put a photo up of our very cute taskmaster, he certainly keeps us on our toes & here he is, none other than the handsome Bailey

One of our volunteers, Stuart Reed, hard at work painting benches at Connaught Park, under the watchful eye of his dog Bailey.

Cllr Pat Sherratt painting away & doing a grand job too.

Another couple of hard working volunteers, Stewart Hamilton & Barry WS fully attired in white overalls!

Thank goodness none of the guys had a camera so I myself escaped being photographed although I did keep an eye out for Howard hiding in the bushes

I'm really sorry I am out of action as I would have loved to have been hands on - nothing worse than being an armchair critic and then not acting when the opportunity arises. I have been advised I won't be using my hand for many weeks to come, it's in a brace at present. You have my full admiration and support though and I'm disappointed that Dover Express haven't already published.

all coming along well now, the sanding down/preparation is the worst part of it i think.

is there a set day that it happens each week colette?

should be in this weeks edition pauline.

The days vary Howard, it depends on how many volunteers are available each day. This morning we had four of us & on Friday we will have another team of four. It's very much on a week by week basis but we are getting there, Three benches are now completely finished, they should be dry & ready to take their place in the park once again this coming Friday

I expected to see some coverage in the Dover Express last Thursday but as you say Howard, hopefully it will be tomorrow.

Indeed Brian, I thought Barry was an apparition in that white attire when I saw him coming along to help, he is so hard to pin down these days

those trees look stunning colette, the equivalent in pencester gardens fell victim to strong winds soon after they blossomed.

Well done to all the volunteers, I sometimes have a drink with a couple of them, Stuart and Barry WS. I wish that I could help but it takes all my time nowadays to keep on top of my garden. (Bloody arthritis).

Two more benches now completed so we should finish the rest tomorrow

Then the planting, they are not quite ready yet due to the cold weather but we are hoping for early next week. Will keep you all posted as one or two of you may be able to help

We did get some coverage in the Dover Express last week albeit small but any publicity is good, thanks guys

Thanks Ken, pleased you & Karen were impressed with all the improvements in the park, everyone works so hard so always nice to have feedback

Kath, thank you, I love seeing all those Connaught Park photos of yesteryear

And here is our update, all seven benches are finally done & dusted, here are some before & after pix.

We have been informed that there are five more benches to be refurbished for the park, they seem to grow like mushrooms!

Attention HELP Needed
Yesterday we got word that our plants are ready so it's all systems go tomorrow morning from 9.30am. I have been busy trying to arrange for volunteers from tomorrow onwards, so if anyone can help, during the day, even if it is only for an hour, then you will be most welcome. If you can, just bring a trowl & a pair of gardening gloves, no worries if not, I may have enough to go round. Hope the weather is kind tomorrow as we must press on getting as much done as possible to get the five beds finalized over the next few days.

those benches look brand new colette, great work from all the volunteers, a bit surprised that more people have not volunteered if they are a regular park user and have some spare time.
