10:4439749Thanet District Council plan to control applications for bedsits in Cliftonville.
Dover has a similar problem (not just the Folkestone Road which I understand has been resolved) but in many areas in Dover where older/larger Victorian properties are.
Thanet DC state "the decision will allow planners to restrict the number of multi-occupancy homes and support other development such as houses and hotels".
Is this a policy that Dover District Council should adopt in order to deliver their aspirations as per the latest LDF. It seems where large clusters of "multiple-occupancy" properties occur there is sadly in general a degree of anti-social activities.

20:3839816i read that about thanet, my understanding is that consultants took nearly 2 years to reach that conclusion.
i think it is too late now to help folkestone road.

20:5439822I am not over optimistic. There is a multiple occupied house not one hundred yards from me which has been a blight on the area over a number of years. (noise, drunkenness, broken windows, fires, police visits etc. etc ).
It appears on the Register of Interests of a DDC Councillor!

21:0139824that doesn't surprise me bob, too many landlords only like to collect rents, usually from the benefits agency.
there is no comeback for the victims i.e people who live nearby.
if you try to get action taken the renting agency will say that their function is merely to collect rent, the owners will say that they renting agency is responsible for the tenants.

11:5839879If this was a possibility, I would press as hard as could be to get this for Dover; I'm sceptical it can be introduced, but would like to think so.
I'm sure the accommodation and poeple housed in Folkestone Road, wouldn't be allowed in Deal, Walmer or Sandwich.
Incidentally Pat, the issue(s) are not resolved - yet.

11:0440080Yesterday's DDC Cabinet asked Planners to look at how Thanet managed to get an Inspector to approve their policy and why Dover cannot apply the same criteria?
Basically any policy change will have to be evidence based to withstand successful appeals which then create a precedent for a free for all.
It will not be a quick process if sufficient evidence is produced, but is a move forward.

Many thanks for responding. Lets hope we see some control of these in the future.
As you are aware we have a problem house in our localaty that has been reported for anti-social behaviour and rubbish etc.
I must place on The Dover Forum our residents gratitude for DDC Environmental Health taking this up and contacting the owner and residents of the property.
It is early days since their intervention and we are hopeful of maintaining a control on this property.
So WELL DONE DDC AND THANK YOU
