16:4534163It seems that the railway bridge has been pranged! I'm not an expert but I suggest that this will take more than a week to sort out.
Such larks!

17:1634167With all the lorries that use it, and how busy it`s always been over the years, could never understand why they never lowered the road years ago. Is there a technical difficulty? Or is it money again? Remember those 3 low roof St Radigunds buses from the early 60s, bought specially for that route?

18:4734182Lucky no one hurt.
If I recall this is the bridge that those against Buckland Hospital site for new hospital say would need replacing.
Is the damage only superficial? If not then a great time to consider what structure is really needed ???

20:1634190Too right Vic, and as one of them is preserved, if still in running order, park it in the same place, and do runs up to St Radigunds and back. Should help pay towards it`s upkeep. Things like this pull crowds, as well as shops, if advertised properly. I know, I`ve seen it on the railways with steam. Multi million pound business!

20:5534196I last saw 807 outside the Churchill Hotel about five years ago. They were doing a wedding exhibition and the bus was being offered as vintage transport.
Never liked the puffins by the way, glad they were kept in Thanet.

14:5834225Earlier today went into town .What a problem it is with the buses diverted /It took me forty minutes .The bus goes into St Radigunds via Hillside ,then goes up Primrose road then back Via Bunker s Hill Road ,along Hillside back into River then on to Crabble Junction and down Crabble Hill into town .Coming back not quite so bad as the bus turns up St Radigunds Road ,down into Primrose and rejoins the Coombe Valley Road .Next Time I shall go to Tesco and catch a bus down into town .

09:5934316Im surprised that not many people have posted on this site .I have been told the road will be closed for some time .The buses maybe routed differently in the next few days .Currently the journey from River can take over thirty minutes .Going into Dover we have to go over Hilside twice as I previously stated .Last night well late afternoon two Artics were on Hillside each going in different directions It was quite scarry as they had to manouve on the hill When the one going up the hill passed us it was touching the side of the bus .
Never one to sit quitely I emailed senior officer and Councillors as the problems with large vechicles going over Hillside needs to be addressed .Residents park both sides of the road it really is a nightmare .
I realise im a rebel but when they talk about cable cars and these local road problems are not addressed one does wonder .
I ask you thirty minutes to cover two miles .Then they propose putting the new Health Facility on the old hospital site .???
Many years ago they could have so easily have built a road going out of the end of the industrial estate and joined it up with the new A 20 .
I have found that we politicians do not put up a strong enough fight .
I gather that we are now to have flags flyiong from the Big Screen .Whoopee

10:5334320Based only on Terry's pictures it would seem that the damage to the bridge is far from superficial. To have cracked that I-beam must have taken one heck of a bang. I haven't been able to find out exactly what hit it yet - but it wasn't a car transporter!
The bridge height is clearly marked so there should have been no reason for any sensible driver to even attempt going under it - we're supposed to know how long, wide and high our vehicles are!
The detour route into and out of the estate has always been a nightmare and regularly causes problems as far back as I can remember. I used to live in Crabble Avenue and have clear recollections of lorries getting stuck on Hillside and even losing their load on the tight uphill bends coming from Crabble Avenue onto Hillside Road. I have even had to use that route myself with a truck and it can be quite a buttock-clenching event.

12:1934337I didn't think Jewson's had anything that big!!!
Even if they do then their drivers must have been into and out of that depot any number of times.

12:4234342At least it's only the "lintel" holding the brickwork up. The rsj's holding the running rails are intact.
