16:3834358As the bridge belongs, I believe, to the rail company and was well marked as being a lowbridge, the cost of repairs should be claimed from Jewsons insurers. There shouldn't be any financial cost to the taxpayer.

16:4134359Dave1 thanks but as you know "should be claimed from Jewsons insurers" and "shouldn't be any financial cost to the taxpayer" are a far cry from what will actually happen.Maybe an experienced councillor responsible for roads and transport could allay my fears.

17:0034360Don`t forget, not only the bridge, but South East trains will want their costs for disruption and any financial costs or losses. After all, they are a private company. I`m assuming they`ve organised a bus service between Dover Priory and Kearsney?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

19:1534377Marek, the bridge is owned by Network Rail, who will absolutely be seeking recompense from Jewsons &/or their insurer's; as Southeastern will be seeking compensation from Network Rail for the disruption to their timetable this will also be sought from the Insurers.

.
Hope it's less complicated than the man in the street normally experiences when submitting his car or flood damage claim.

09:5634682I understand that traffic will be allowed uder the bridge to day .It has been a nightmare .The bus drivers have had to cope with going over Hillside twice when going into town .Unless like me you use a bus on a regular basis it is hard to understand the problems .Yesterdaywe had three pushcairs on the bus the parents got on outside of the hospital .They had to stand whilst we went back over Hillside into River then via Crabble Hill.To think the London Road is only a few yards away and their journey time was extended by at least ten minutes .My journey times varied from twent five minutes to forty minutes not bad for a two mile journey .This damage has cost a lot of money .
Coombe Vallet transport had to go via Hillside and that caused a few problems .

10:4235015That explains a lot Brian. I couldn't see how an aluminium body could cause so much damage.

10:4935017That's one lesson the driver won't forget in a hurry then - to stow his hiab (Hydrauliska Industri AB (Finnish; crane manufacturer)) properly and check his height before leaving the yard.

08:2035099When I saw that the hiab had hit the bridge I wondered what damage a veil could possibly have done..........which just demonstrates my ignorance on so many levels.
