11:4936922Just to show you all how big the boundaries of the constituency of Dover is, I am by law can not download the map I have now got,With help of others I have now got hold of the above map,but what I can show you is the Boundaries, the map is not that big but the following are about right I have miss some out which are inside the boundaries.I do not think this has been done before on the Forum so for alot of you this is new.
Going from Dover we go out to Capel from there across to Fernfeld lane at Hawkinge then on to Swanton court and Wingate Farm, out to Denton then onto Aylesham, out again to Garrington farms and Goodnestone then to Eastry woodnesborough, down to Hacklinge and Sholden back out to Sandown Castle, back to Deal ,Walmer Kingsdown ,St Margaret,s at Cliffe, and back into Dover,if you mark that out on amap you will see any parish or town inside the boundaries are all the Dover Constituency and that is very big,all the partys will be trying to get round them all at the next election.last time i did over 90% most of it with just my Wife and me but did have help out at Deal and some parts of Dover and it is a thank you from me to them for that, again i need more help this time round.Anyway as I said I have not got it all in but most of it.Thank you.

18:0336960Not so Howard you need to get all around and talk to the public, I agree most votes are got in the Towns and the bigger parish s but still need to get out to the Boundaries.

20:4636980unless you have the party members to canvass like the big two have, best to concentrate on reaching as many residences as you can vic.
an evening in the sticks could mean knocking on 20 doors, central dover well over 100.

22:0836997Please, ANY party candidates.
Do not knock on my door, I have nothing to say to any of you and I don't need you to tell me how good you or your party are.
That includes you Vic.
I'm not voting for any of you.

23:0237003From the age of 18 up until 2 elections ago i always voted labour Howard. I don't even vote in the locals.
Yes I agree we have a good selection of candidates, but all i hear from them is that they can do better than the other parties, they never do.
I don't know what drives them to do what they do but they NEVER come up with the goods.
I believe in sticking to something and getting the best results, thats how i used to deal with the River Dour, then someone comes along with authority and cocks it all up.
I have no confidence in any of them.

15:0937062I can go along with most of what Ian says, particularly about the door knocking. Anyone waking me up of an evening before a night shift will probably get a very sore ear. However, if you can vote then I believe you should. It is the only way to make changes happen. Apathy isn't an option in my book.
It would be nice, though, for the parties to come up with realistic manifestos and then stick to them if they get into power.
p.s. Is there any possiblity of foregoing the inter-party backstabbing next time around? I want to know what your party is going to do, not what the other parties are not going to do!

15:2037066Got to go with Ian on this one. I have no interest or beliefs in any one of them, and I won`t vote because one party offers a tax cut, or shakes hands with a pensioner. At the end of the day, nothing in this world is free, and it has to be give with one hand and take away with the other.

15:2437068Phil - there will always be positive and negative aspects to electioneering. A part of what an opposition must do is point out where a Government went wrong and say what they would do different. What I dont like is where Government make false claims about the policies of the opposition instead of discussing real issues. The recent dodgy dossier was a prime example of that, a tissue of lies and misrepresentation.
As for the campaigning.
Political Parties are damned if they do and damned of they dont as far as door knocking is concerned.
You are just as likely to be critisised because no-one from your party knocked on your door, as by those who feel they have been disturbed.
Just remember this.... Those people who knock on doors on behalf of Parties are volunteers, they are not paid party hacks. They are ordinary people motivated by wanting to help a friend, member of their family or a cause they believe in. There is no need to be rude or to lie to them, just say honestly whether you might or might not support them and that will be it. If you dont intend to vote for anyone, just say so, dont lie.
Liers, incidentally, end up the worse off because they will then get knocked up repeatedly by all the Parties they lied to on election day and it serves them right.
All political parties have a problem getting enough help to cover the whole constituency and invariably large parts of any constituency does not get canvassed, there just is not the time or manpower resources.

15:2537069Colin you can use your vote for the party who you think is more responsible in the way it governs .If no one bothered we would have a dictatorship .At local level you should vote for the person who works for you and not just at election times A person who communicats and gets things done ..

15:4737075That`s just it Sue, you shouldn`t vote through thinking which party, you should only vote through knowing which party, and I don`t know which party. I haven`t a clue who my local person is, but no doubt being election year, he or she will make their 6 yearly appearance here. Not a case of not bothering though Sue, either you`re interested in politics or you`re not. I won`t vote because I don`t understand much of it, and with that, I`m not qualified to. I can give you a lecture on the destruction of our railway system from before the war to the present day, by ALL parties. Billions wasted by bungling, stupid empty headed politicians, and seen all our other great industries go down the pan.
