Before anybody moans at me I have asked this question on the D.L but never got a proper answer,so I thought I would ask on this forum.
What is the hold up with the cycle path along buckland avenue,& cherry tree avenue. It was supposed to take six weeks but it must be three months now & it is still not finished.
I still don't think we needed it as most people I have seen still ride along the road,& not the cycle path.

Most people I see ride on the pavement.

Not sure of the hold-up but little or no work has been done for weeks even a couple of months now, perhaps they have been taken away to fix the potholes.I cycled up Barton Path today and must have passed about a dozen cyclists many young children

OMG......... DTIZ is spreading far and wide, I can't see it spreading to Deal or folkestone though.
One day maybe we will have something that goes ahead and is completed within a reasonable amount of time.

Because the money has already been allocated, it won't be because of any financial holdup and they would have their own crew, so won't be filling pot-holes instead.
I have asked Nigel to find out why nothing has been done - or appears that nothing has been done.

I asked Nigel about the delay and here is his reply:
"Good morning Roger
I pass this site frequently and noticed apparent little change - or no change, so asked for a report on the progress.
Buckland Bridge to Lorne Road - section complete.
Buckland Avenuie to Barton Road/Cherry Tree Avenue Junction - awaiting disconnection of electrical connection to existing signs - signs will then be relocated at the back of the footway and reconnected with the final surfacing laid to complete - should be done in the next two weeks.
Barton Path - works complete including improved lighting other than a couple of minor issues with the most noteworthy being a tree stump that is raising the river wall coping - expected that these will be dealt with in about a weeks time if not already done.
Frith Road Junction and Maison Dieu Road - programmed to commence on 13th June which means that all should be clear in time for Dover Carnival on 3rd July.
The scheme has not run out of money and is proceeding - other sections will follow on.
Regards
Nigel"
So it's not run out of steam (or money) but waiting on others.

I want this path finished, but it seems bad planning if the contractors are waiting on others, the road on the corner of Cherry Tree looks a mess, the residents in this area have had to put up with a lot.

So John, should we go back to the good old days of every borough council having its own direct works department? Personally I think the wheel has turned full circle now and I think that is a model worth considering.
Local jobs for local people rather than using national contractors.

These people arent local and nor were Jacobs who wanted to do the Barriers, all I said was why hasn't it been done, weeks without any movement.Went along London Road today single traffic jams, and no workmen in sight,I thought yesterday was the Holiday!

My point, John, was that if we were using the council's direct employees to do the job it would have been done and dusted weeks ago at probably less cost.

Just to cheer you up, I should mention that when the new street lamp was placed outside my house it took nearly two years for EDF to change over the wiring from the old one!

the london road works are a total disaster, drivers are naturally getting impatient and are going as far as they can before cutting up others when the road narrows.

Forgot to say a couple of customers were complaining about having to negotiate the dog mess along Barton Path.
I have been told who is not clearing up their very large black dog's mess around my area but I do not know the person's name even though I know where his wife practices and I believe he lives. This might be enough hints for those in the know.

I once used to get irritated by the oicks who speed along the terrace to try and get ahead of the traffic, now I just smile.
The reason? If they'd stayed in the queue in the main road the traffic lights would have let about 50 cars out in the nearly 2 minutes that they are green. On the terrace the lights are green for only about 10 seconds and only five cars get out. It's a longer wait taking the short cut!
