DDC Press Release****
DOVER DISTRICT GETS READY TO VOTE
People across Dover District will be casting their votes for European and County elections, and also for some Parish and Town Council seats, on Thursday 4 June.
One hundred and thirty three candidates are being fielded by 15 parties for the 10 seats that make up the South East region of the European Parliament, and 23 candidates will be competing for seven local seats on Kent County Council in five areas, Deal, Dover North, Dover Town, Dover West and Sandwich. There are also two vacant seats on Deal Town Council, one on Worth Parish Council, and ten on Eythorne Parish Council.
There are 60 polling stations in Dover District, which are open from 7am until 10pm.
County, and Town and Parish votes will be counted on Friday 5 June with results expected at around mid afternoon. Votes for the European Parliament will be counted on Sunday evening and a local result is expected at around 9pm.

I would expect a low turnout in these elections as various whispers have it that the candidates are getting some hostility on the doorstep about the state of politics in general. The Westminster expenses scandal has permeated down to grass root level. people are sick of politics and politicians.
This willl surely result in the aforementioned low turnout, so perhaps those counting the returning papers wont have too difficult a night.
From the Dover Town KCC seat position you have the interesting clash between Nigel Collor and Gordon Cowan. We must try and sell some interest in this so its always best to market these things as a one to one thing. Like a championship boxing match...
Bruiser Cowan v Crusher Collor..
You join me here on worldwide NBC and ...
yes its the young blood Cowan against veteren Collor, but who will prevail. In their previous bout, ruddy faced Collor made inroads, but was eventually succumbed by overwhelming odds and the traditional use of the one two. These things very often go according to previous encounters and that one was no exception. But will it change this time. Opinions vary but there may be surprises. Bruiser Cowan is the younger of the two men so will he last the distance better although odds suggest that we could be in line for an upset.

A low turnout can be expected certainly. Just how these elections pan out is really too difficult to call at the present time given the expense scandal.

Paul B so as to keep the balance the clash is not just about Gordon Cowan and Nigel Collor .In the frame you have Bill Newman and Roger Frayne and others ,.
I think you will find Gordon is the vetran he has been around longer than Nigel .I should know as I was at the count when he losdt his DDC seat ,however he came back again .He is a fighter ?
Roger Frayne has been around for years and years .Let us give credit where its due ,as for Bill he joined the council with me in1987 .You see some of us go back in time .
Interesting reading in the Dover Exporess .Politics is not nice ..During an election it has to be a balanced view .
I have worked with all these people .Still my vote is in Dover West .
The truth will out

I think Sue is right, its about all the candidates, theres also the 2 lib dem candidates totally unknown as far as im aware.
one lives near me but i don't know much about him, he doesn't involve himself locally, the other lib dem stood before but didnt do very well.
I don't think there wiull be any upset in this seat(s)
I think other seats you may see chsanges
Dover rural thats going to be close run, and seat could be lost by sitting cllr
Deal seats, they will be close and they to could change hands
but thats just my view
what do others think

Low turnout? How about virtually zero turnout? I think the majority of people are simply so fed up to the back teeth with politics (and politicians) at the moment that the only thing that will draw them out of their houses would be a national election - and even that's doubtful.

Bill was a former teacher at Sandwich and in Schools in Dover,he is a quiet man softly spoken yet dedicated in his efforts, when I have been out with him it is amazing how many past pupils come to speak to him,he is well respected by all sides as well.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

I have the greatest respect for Bill Newman. Roger Frayne is retired from Hammonds and has been a low profile local activist for many, many years and in fact it was he who first got me involved in the Conservatives in 1974. He has recently done a 3 year stint as Association chairman having taken over from me when I completed my 3 years. He is a DDC and DTC councillor and is a hard working Dovorian who would be a first class County member.
There is the potential for shocks all over Keith. This is going to be a strange election.

Yes you are correct, i'm just saying this is what I thinks going to happen havin heard the feedback(if they speak the truth) the seats will remain same in Dover Town.
The upsets I reckon will be Dover Rural and Deal
just my view
Got my postal vote, easy job with county,
but 15 diffrent parties on the European, boy is that going to confuse people,
never seen suchg a big ballot paper! and why was the envelope to small to fit ballot paper? had to fold it, bit silly, minor point.
