Me old mucker.
The body was set up by KCC and so i suppose base is maidstone.
The reps are the present cllrs of KCC/DDC/DTC
There is a n/hood forum for each town, so the cllrs for that area.
They hold 3 monthly meeting(for this area usually in DTC offices)
and vary subjects, don't think KCC realy ever been committed to it, just ticking a box.
hope that helps
keith
PSL I Believe this body should have teeth/finance but never been the case and realy at present a talking shop
Thanks Keith

Actually Howard, that's not true.
We (the public) don't listen to them. They have had some very worthwhile topics recently, but the public just don't turn up.
The previous one was all about unemployment and what the various bodies can do to get people back into work; about 3 members of the public turned up - I bet there's a lot more than 3 people out of work.
I don't know how they can engage successfully with the public, so far it's not working.

theres a couple of things that spring to mind, distrust and continued lip service.

sorry roger, i beg to differ.
nothing of note comes out of these meetings.
could be why only three people turned up for the meeting you referred to.

Is it the topic or content then Howard that keeps you away ?
The content on the last one was so comprehensive, you couldn't have failed to be overwhelmed; maybe the public should choose the topic.
What topics would you like to see discussed - this is for all Forumites to answer.
If topics that interest people are put forward, would you attend - or are they wasting their time and your money ?

I think public meetings are a thing of the past, not sure how you engage these days,
Sad that only 3 people turned up, it has to be looked at is this body viable?
it was a good try, the other problem is, should this body fall then decisions will go back to being made 50 miles away.
So realy I'm a fan of such a body, and hopefully a formula can be found to make it work.
Maybe publishing results of the meeting on unemployed, how the panel could/would help, etc.
Just a suggestion
results could be put around, community groups, shops etc where ever people go, might spark some interest

the content or topic is irrelevant if no action is going to be taken.
3 people turning up says it all really, i see no point in continuing the neighbourhood forums.

howard, of course it is,they have money to waste why not spend it on lip service forums.
Trying to continue the postive vein of Keith, I agree totally, the results of these forums should be published. Moreover, the dates/times of the meetings should be publicised more. There should be a DTC contacts database for all the organisations likley to be interested in such meetings, and, specialist targetting dependent on the subject being discussed. Ergo, if the subject is unemployment, target the local recruitment agencies/job centre and get them to inform their members.
A bit of professionalism would go a long way towards making these events a bit more successful, and if that still didn't make them work, well, maybe it's because they aren't required.
However, I suspect the lack of communication and organisation is the real problem here.

One thing that was very clear was the little officer time spent on these forum's and the workload they had, it was realy impossible for so few staff to organise All the forums, so realy the advert for meetings were publicised by local papers but if your like me and rarely buy the local paper you wouldn't see or know about it.
I'm with Sid(blimey this becoming a habit lol) if your going to do it, do it properly and 100%.
Advertise as widely as possible, doesn't take much time to do, with a little effort.
and target your audience.
Maybe then we can see if they are viable or not.

you feel we are some distance apart, yet we probably share many views;
maybe one day we can discuss what our beliefs are and see how many we share
Ah i see a bromance brewing.
