13:3515343Looking forward to it. Always a good event. I sincerely hope Dover Athletic's magnificent championship success of last season was filmed for posterity (and Dover Rugby Club's promotion too, of course).
It'd be outrageous if these sporting achievements have ended up on the cutting room floor to make way for edge-of-your-seat footage of the annual Pooh-sticks race on the Dour.
White Army etc...

18:3615373I'd sent an email circular poster and introduction round to the 1600 or people I can contact via email. Hope lots of people turn up.
Mike McFarnell, who films all the events for the film festival will also be showing Ray Warner's life in Dover in 1968. I also understand there may well be some "shorts" - short films, where novice directors and actors can practise film-making.

19:0015379DCAL girls and myself will be doing the raffle on Tuesday evening.
Having attended the film festival over the last few years. I can honestly say Mike does a great job capturing all the events through the year. If you have not been before, please go. You will enjoy it.

23:4315409The "shorts" will be shown continuously in the Stone Hall. Closing date for entries is Sunday. I'll post details on Monday morning.
One is very good and will attract the "underground" brigade.

18:4715472Thanks Terry, did think that was the film on the fuel tanks - one of the papers said it was under the Western Heights but they are behind the Eastern Docks

20:4315476i was always told (like paul) that the cliffs to the side of the eastern docks were almost hollowed out, holding fuel storage tanks, in the event of invasion.
the reason being that our german friends would be taken by surprise when we re-invaded, knowing a stockpile of fuel was to hand.
i am sure that i was ed connell that told me this.

23:5815486I will try to find the map out but there are several tunnels the length of football pitches 50ft high and 50ft wide under Langdon, tunnel from the convicts prison, mine store, aerial ropeway tunnel and more under there.
We had installations to set the sea on fire at Shakespeare Cliff and St Margarets Bay, but I am sure that these installations would have allowed millions of gallons of fuel to be able to spill out into the harbour if needs be...

12:0315607Hi Andy, scheduled time is about 21.35. Depends a bit on how long it takes for me to ramble on at the start and middle and how long Mike takes at the end!
The wrecking crew (my two sons) are arriving at 21.45 to knock it all down so everyone should be gone by then.

07:4715640He must have had a lot of volunteer help Terry; fancy knocking down the bus garage all on his own !
Good Films - saw some of thw "shorts" too.
A good "Best of......" Networking meeting last night at the Town Hall. Local busines people from Dover, Deal and Sandwich, meeting to see how they can work together; more and more Dover Loyalty Scheme type initiatives coming to the fore.

08:0215674Couple of social pictures (and small report) now on the frontpage taken on Tuesday Night. It was my first time at the Film Festival and I really enjoyed it. Twas great seeing the year unfurl in Mike's film so a well done to him. As Roger says there was also a major business meeting in the wings and a hall full of stalls with various bits and bobs of interest. The DCAL team did a raffle but as ever I won nothing... although I think I was late buying a ticket but just ended up contributing to the coffers. I enjoyed the bar and met a few familiar faces of course.Always good.
