23:1613689buckland, we are told is "not fit for purpose".
i am not sure what that actually means.
as an addendum, marek( a while back) gave a very good post in support of the new facility

23:1813690he pointed out that the majority of people going to hospitals are the old and infirm, returning home the same day.
the town centre location is ideal for them.

09:2413703"Not fit for purpose" means that the physical structure is not fit for the purpose of being a hospital.
The new hospital will be more central, easier to get to for all people, especially the elderly and/or those with mobility problems as all the buses have low floor technology, making it so much easier to get on and off.
It's also being future-proofed, so as our population and needs grow, so can the hospital.

13:5813720But the 'new hospital' isn't a hospital, it's a clinic! - it will 'not be fit for purpose' for being a hospital as it isn't one, correct me if I am wrong

15:0913724Brian when peope say it will be easier to attend a new health facility in centre of town they are correct .Currently for most people travelling on the bus to Buckland Hospital it means change of buses ,River ,Aycliffe Whitfield ,Temple Ewell all these people have to change buses in Town .New facillity Centre of Town ,off bus ,short walk to new health facilities .No one ever said it was going to be a hospital, but more facilties than we have now.

15:2813727Isn't that more of an argument for better bus services rather than a replacement clinic instead of a hospital with fewer/different facilities?

15:5413729changing is no problem if they more joined up [i hate using that prase],is it because people cant be botherd to wait a few minutes between getting off one and waiting for another.its not rocket sience you know.

17:2113743Don't know much about hospitals, apart from endless journeys ferrying Dovorians back and forth to William Harvey and QEQM. However, to my mind they usually have beds. Buckland had beds and the new one will not. Therefore, as Sue says, the new one is not a hospital. I know that hospitals have beds because my mum was a Nursing Sister. She trained and subsequently worked at St. Mary Abbots hospital in London. I clearly remember her saying that they had beds, lots of them.

17:2513746beds usually are necessary items for hospitals.

17:3913749The 'more services' in the new clinic seem to consist of the ones that have been cut from Buckland so were they cut back in order to make their restoration in the new clinic look good?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

19:3713751Bern there are frequent buses to St Radigunds the point is you have to come into town then go out again .Brian i assume you are still reasonably fit and not ederly .If you live in the places i stated you have to get off one bus and wait for another .Not good Brian when you are going to a health facility for treatment or to see a consultant .If you drive a journey from River to buckland is five minutes .Bus journey thirtyfive minutes thats if you dont have to wait for a connexion .New facilities twelve minutes then off bus across the road alldone in 15minutes .Near to the chemist .Pop into a cafe for a cup of tea and home .
WE were never promised a hospital
Maybe a coffee in Age Concern .
