just to add to pb's post. the area around asda in folkestone is thriving like never before.
it is hard to keep track of new shops opening.
the car parks seem busy, there are more new buses than before.

if folkestones asda is a central hub with smaller indiependent shops opening around it,the question will the same thing happen in dover when asda finally opens in dover or will apathy take over as normal.

Howard not sure where you get your information but this thread on Folkestone Locals clearly highlights that they have similar problems to us

19:4531527Thought this needs to continue on a thread of it's own - from Roger
"The big developments - DTIZ etc. are now outside the remit of DDC, inasmuch as ASDA have paid their section 106 money, the planning consent has been issued to them and CPOs issued for the necessary "difficult" landlords."
When will the next movement be on this, will DDC work on further demolitions of property that they now own ?
Been nice knowing you :)

08:3531557There seems little point in knocking down loads of buildings and putting hoardings of fly-postings over them - half of Dover would come down.
As we're still talking of some months away, I'd have thought we could use the Community pay-back team to tidy up many of our run-down, dilapidated buildings.
At least a new coat of paint would make them look brighter and the Town a bit more cared for, until either they're knocked down or done up properly.
