the horse trough shelter has been damaged twice in a week again , i know keith reported it a few weeks ago , but must agree a camera needs to be installed nearby
i think it must be half a dozen windows broken since christmas and proving too hard for police to sort out

Maybe it's time it was moved after all...it sounds like residents are fighting a losing battle..great shame..

schools are out, that doesn't help.
roger wrote to property services a few weeks back reporting damage, looks like another letter is needed.
surely connaught park is the best place for it?

Howard
How about the seafront? You will have to clear it with Colette and Sheli first...

We need to at least double the Police force and use a no-tollerance approach towards public nuisance.

my only issue with moving it is you are giving into the vandals, where do we stop with this?? every time something is damaged we move it?
I prefer the camera idea, or other ways of cartching who's doing it.

How about Pencester if it is moved.

keith
the authorities gave into the vandals a long time ago, what chance do the rest of us have?
jan
pencester would see it vandalised beyond repair, we need it somewhere which is locked at night.

I thought of Pencester as there are usually people in the area, Connaught is not busy at all times especially when the children are at school but the vandals are about.
In all honesty nowhere is safe unless it goes inside somewhere like the museum which is not really practical.

It could be put in my back garden - it'd look lovely there.
I'll contact property services again.

I've now sent an email to the Manager of Property Services. No response last time, hope it's picked up this time.

Just to let you know I have had a response about the tram-shelter:
"Dear Cllr Walkden
I have had your email passed onto me as I have been dealing with the repairs to this shelter following your previous email regarding the vandalism on the 20th March 2011.
I can confirm that an order for replacement glass was placed with Shepway Glass on the 28th March and Veolia were asked to remove the graffiti and to clean up the glass fragments.
I have spoken to Shepway Glass this afternoon who have stated that the glass has been cut and is now with the sandblasters waiting to be etched.
I have also asked "Fountain Group" a specialist cleaning contractor to deal with the graffiti ASAP.
In the meantime as I live quite close to the tram shelter I will have a look at it on my way home tonight to determine the extent of anymore damage caused by the vandals.
Incidentally, I did report the vandalism caused to the tram shelter to the police who had carried out an investigation to find the culprits but to no avail.
Regards"
Hopefully it will last a little longer, but how do we stop these "people" from doing it again ? We could only put a camera there for a short time and it may well stop it for that period, but as we all know, as soon as the camera goes, out come the brain-dead again. If not brain-dead, what other term should be used ?

Is there a traffic camera that could cover the whole area, even a mock one might do the trick so long as it is well signed.

More cameras would be great , but what do we do with theese vandals when the police catch them , better punishments , make parents responsible for there children .

well it's time to put up or shut up.
i'm unwilling to give in to the vandals, and will fight tooth and nail for it to remain
where does this stop if we give in to them?
so at this p;oint in time i'm not looking at alternative sites

are you prepared to sit out all night and guard it keith?
the residents nearby either do not hear or see anything, alternatively they do not care.

howard;
you have seen on here, and around the area there is a lot of passion over the shelter remaining where it is.
if the cllrs have got there fingers on the pulse they will be aware of this.
watch this space if there are any waves to move it

I suggest a cardboard cut-out of Keith in his PCSO gear would frighten the hooligans off good 'n proper.

If this is the original site it would be a shame to move it. If the hedge behind could be cut it would open the shelter up and make it harder to hide inside and carry out the vandalism. Whether the owners of the hedge would want it cut is another matter of course! Is there a light in the shelter? Might it be worth installing one if not? And perhaps a board with information on the history of the shelter could alert people to its significance.
