07:0927801At least in the cricket circles we will hopefully see England win the ashes today or tommorow, they are in a very strong position.

07:2127810Yes, should be a good result for England.
Although having said that, records are there to be broken, so you never know.

19:1427850i was hooked to the radio commentary today.
what a great relief it was in the end.
i seem to remember a few predictions of 5-0 from ex australian players that should have known better.

06:1427878Congratulations indeed to the English cricket team.
On the subject of South Africa and the World Cup; my brother lives in South Africa and boy are they looking forward to it.
It'll be Christmas every day for the increasing number of gangs and picket-pockets, muggers and thieves, so if any Forumite is thinking of going, be very, very careful.
Despite the "Rainbow Nation" idea and aspirations from the Government (Mandela, Mbeki and now Zuma) it is a Country where you would need to be very careful; but it's also one of the most beautiful countries in the World.

06:5227882I'd love to go there. And Jamaica - both countries that we are told are dangerous on a daily basis, as you say. But I would love to see them.

16:5927916getting back to roger's comment about south africa, we have a cricket tour there before the world cup.
the worlds capital of street crime will have a ball.
much the same with jamaica, our cricket fans are picked up within the hotel compund by coach and taken into the ground before being let off of it.

05:3727934They certainly will Howard; the personal fortunes of many black South Africans will improve substantially, but it's mostly gangs - but it isn't just South Africa where the visitor gets fleeced/robbed, mugged etc.
I hear that gangs from overseas (some from Spain and Eastern Europe) are taking advantage of low-cost flights and coming here to rob and mug - using tomato ketchup squeezy bottles as an aid, would you believe.
One squirts you, another comes up and rubs you down and talks to you about it and another lifts your purse or hand-bag; needless to say they are picking on the weak and vulnerable.
