Yes indeed...that's St Mary's Church there isnt it and presumably right in the flood plain. It would have been a terrific idea to have a hospital right in here in the centre of things, it seemed to be up and running as a real goer for a while. But...a strong lobby against, using the flood plain notion, seemed to put paid to the whole thing...and in no time at all we were back at Buckland.
I remember Gwyn Prosser saying to me at the time, he had fought long and hard to keep Buckland open with no real success ..and then as if by some ironic default it saved itself by the simple accident of us having a flood plain.

st pauls r.c. church paul, i agree that would have been the ideal spot fort a hopital, slap bang in the middle of the largest population centre.
being so close to the bus terminus and town centre would have gone a long way towards regenerating the town.

Pity some people would not listen & killed off hospital scheme when the plans for this work could have met the timetable.
Ah well personal agendas!!
And still no hospital.

Gosh yes...thats the one I meant Howard. St Mary's is the other one isnt it. You can see why i dont do any good at your picture 'where is it' quiz!!
Yes I believe it would have helped regenerate the town too, bringing people in...giving them a reason to come here. A hub.

It was never going to happen to much cost, please lets not go over all that again, you can not have a timetable or know the real cost when there is that kind of ground work to be done before a build.

# 4. As Leader of the Dover District Council you should be in possession of Chronology and facts regarding the Maison Dieu site proposed for our Hospital...............
..............what plans .....none had been submitted............still have not been submitted............
.Par for the course disingenuous point scoring...................
Time will reveal the many Dover District Council heads in the sand since July 2007 which stopped our Hospital being built.

i don't know the details about any plans submitted reg but paul is right about the reason we are no nearer having a hospital than we were before personal egos took over.
in fact we are worse off with the birthing unit closure at buckland.

There would be a hospital at Brook House by now if the "self appointed voices of the people" hadn't got in the way...
Been nice knowing you :)

Too much prevarication and split choice (Whitfield, Buckland, Mid-Town, caused the delay, then the flood-plain became apparant and the decision ended up at Buckland.
I understand that the flood-plain problems are being resolved, but no planning application for the Buckland site will be put forward until mid/late 2012.
As Paul has said, it would have been within the budget allocated.

roger then goes on to confirm that plans may not be put forward for another year.
do you still say that things are not at the lowest ebb?

Also just to add to what I have already said ,There is air pollution along that part of the road, not a place to build a Hospital of any kind.
