17:4832912seems to be open season on roger, the lib dems trying to make political capital out of a thread on south africa here.
they never have anything much to say about their own plans, plenty to say about the other parties.
they never change, whatever name they go under, no surprise that they fail to post on here, but avidly read looking for slip ups from others.

18:3632919just the usual suspects bern, trying to gain some cheap votes before the general elelction, take a look at the s. africa thread and see if you can spot anything nasty.
comments from our barry do not count for this exercise.

19:0032928I saw it Howard and was obviously very disappointed to read it. There was nothing racist nor supportive of the Apartheid regime in South Africa in the thread or in any of my postings.
They (the Lib-Dems) must be really hard up to do this and I was disappointed that the DE thought it worthy of making into an article.
Antony Hook must be really scraping the barrel, hoping to discredit me so that I get fed up with all these insults and stupid stories and allow his man John Mackie get elected.
I don't know if this attack was agreed by the two Lib-Dem District Councillors; I'd be very surprised if it was, they are both very decent chaps - I've never met John Mackie.
The Dover Express could have put the article on me being given the job of Dover Business Support Manager on page three, so more people would read that, instead of putting it at the back half of the paper.
I can't go through life treading on egg-shells, or be worried about postings I make on here and whether some low-life will attack me.
Seems I have limited options, which I'll have to think about over the week-end.
Roger

19:0932930i have met mr mackie, seems a decent cove, his party i have no time for though, they are non existent around here, and only appear at election time.
then there is very little of anything constructive.
i still remember the tricks of about 5 or 6 years ago up at whitfield, putting it about that the nursing homes were to be closed by the council. completely untrue but frightened the living daylights out of the vulnerable residents.

19:3132933This is exactly the kind of nonsense that plays into the hands of the BNP. I do not doubt that Hooky wishes nothing but ill on the BNP but he and others like him with their obsession with branding ordinary decent people racist, is exactly what the BNP nasties rely on to gain support. Of course he has a political agenda and that does not make his stupidity any better. What a pathetic and sad little man Antony Hook is.

09:2632976Just a point of clarification .Re closing of nursing homes at Whitfield .I met with the Liberal Councillors and there concern was over the vacant flats in Manley House a DDC sheltered scheme .Due to pressure applied at that time DDC did place tenants into those flats but a few years down the line a decision was taken to close four of the schemes Manley House being one .It is now completly empty .
On another point before your time Howard Maxton and Elmsvale had two very good Liberal councillors Well thought of and respected by all in the council chamber .
You need a long memory in politics ..

17:1132992Thanks David
I was going to start a separate thread, but as we are at this point, I'll post the "NewsFlash" Cameron at the Chamber, put out.
"Dover Chamber Takes Centre Stage"
The Dover District Chamber of Commerce is moving forward at great pace. Recent expansion has led to the recruitment of three additional board directors and this week sees the opening of a new office for Dover Business Support (DBS) in the Town Centre. Located at 23/25 Worthington Street, the Chamber's DBS will offer direct assistance and promotional support t to all Dover businesses.
Newly appointed DBS Manager, Roger Walkden is looking to help the wide spectrum of enterprising businesses that are Dover Based take full advantage of the increase of Dover's visitors and potential investors drawn in as a result of the growing number of cruise ship passengers who disembark at Dover's Cruise Terminals and the High Speed train services.
The Chamber's President responsible for Business Development, Cameron Macsween, said, "This is part of a comprehensive service that will stimulate the local economy and be of genuine value to all businesses, and is just the first of a number of Chamber initiatives that will reinforce the regeneration of Dover for the benefit of all local companies and traders".
Founded in 1850, Dover District Chamber of Commerce maintains its headquarters at White Cliffs Business Park in Whitfield and expects to announce further expansion plans before the end of the year."
Hip, Hip Hooray !!!!!

18:3633006Roger. I have been remiss in not congratulating you on your appointment.
This has taken some time to come to fruition but we have got there in the end. This is just the start, the Dover District Chamber is going places but more importantly Dover Businesses will have a bigger voice speaking out for them and being active in promoting the right environment for business.
The Chamber's new larger Board is very dynamic and with our 'cabinet system' in place the Directors can be more pro-active in the areas of their individual responsibility.
I am keen that more businesses join the Chamber to add more muscle to what we do. Yes Dover Business Support is there to help all Dover Town Businesses, whether members or not, but we can do so more effectively with a bigger and more active membership. Local businesses are part of the local community and depend to a greater or lesser degree on this community for their success and by joining they can make a positive contribution.
Well done Roger, Dover businesses cannot have a better and more dedicated champion than you and with the strength of the Chamber and our Board behind you DBS can go a long way.
As Chairman, I have to say that I could not have a better board to work with.

I can't believe how long this Gout is taking to go; I'm sure by the time it has gone, Jean will be happy to see the back of me for a few hours, so won't worry about me being at work all day.

im interested to know how far back these 2 lib dem cllrs were in the past as i dont recall them.
there were 2 lib dem cllrs when Elms vale stood alone (without priory)
priory alone would be unlikely to elect lib dems
