16:4137686Leaflet through the door this afternoon about the golf tournament next year at Sandwich, and your chance to earn lolly by renting your property out to the thousand`s of visitor`s. And, while we`re on that subject, any plans to woo them to Dover to eat out etc? Time flies, and you`ve got an early warning here those involved in council planning etc. sandwich-golf.com

17:2337710Bern the open does not need any publicty at all, it is one of the main golf tourments in the world with well over 100.000 going in the four days it is always a sell out on the last day.just do not go by car if you wish to get home on the same day.

17:3937721Vic - the question isn't about the Open, but about DDC and DTC capitalising on it. I hope you read you ballot papers with more care..........................

18:0637729the last time it came to sandwich,a hotel on the folkestone road took in a load of texan visitors, they did not seem impressed by their surroundings outside the hotel though.
incidentally that 4 star hotel is now a block of nearly completed flats.

18:1137731I know what you are saying Bern but having been down this rd before I do not think that the council can do anymore on this that is not already done, most of the public come for the golf and that is it they go back might have a meal out.but the time the golf packs up at night it is gone 1800hrs it takes over hour to get out so the only places left open are eating or drinking. As for the ballot papers and the election I like the others work each day well into the night to try and get it right, but the post is about the golf, and that has been coming to Sandwich few times now so again I feel that the council can not add to what is already there, but do the shops stay open etc and would it be worth them doing that,I do not know in Sandwich it might be a yes but as for Dover or even DEAL I just do not know. this is one for Roger

20:3637773I lived in Sandwich when the open golf first came back to Sandwich and the roads were heavy with traffic especially the Deal - Sandwich beach road, the restaraunts were very busy but no much else in the Town it seemed as if the ladies who weren't watching the golf spent thier days in Deal Canterbury or London, most of the visitors came by train and Sandwich Station was very very busy.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

21:1937787A mate of mine in Deal let his house for the open a few years back.
turned his house over to a couple of Americans for a week, He had a very expensive holiday with the kids and he was 2 grand better off when he came back.
Nice little earner.

09:3137844DDC organised the last Bristish Open here - The Royal and Ancient organise the golf tournament; DDC, with Nigelo at the helm, do everything else and do it very well.
The Royal and Ancient have come back to Sandwich in a relatively short space of time (5 years I think) BECAUSE it was organised so well.
It needs promoting to the businesses here, as well as the accommodation sector and historic sites, museums and attractions.
There are a lot of advantages for local people and businesses with this.

10:3737849The Open Golf has been held at Sandwich many times .I recall Cllr Jim Hood was very much involved when we had a Labour administration .Nigel took over from him .Let us not forget some of the good work previous councillors have done .Bit like fish and chip newspapers here today gone tomorrow .
Over the years there has been much good work done by many councillors .Dont just look at the ones who are always courting the press .
I sometimes look at old council diaries and recall the former faces ,

18:4237929I can only go back to the time Jean and I came to Dover Sue; I understood it used to come here every ten years, now it is to be every 5.
