07:3028249They have been trying the aforementioned crop replacement initiative for ten years and its made no difference whatsoever. Im not sure if anything else will grow there in a significant way as its not exactly a fertile green and pleasant land. A dustbowl springs to mind. The fact of the matter is that without the poppy fields the nation would starve as they have no other way of earning money. To them its bread and butter. How can they give up their bread and butter.
The latest US Commander was featured on the radio4 this morning telling of the sad plight of the overall situation stating that the coalition effort has made no difference to the lives of ordinary people in Afghanistan....and they are not beating the Taliban. Its like the ocean tidal system isnt it...they take over a town and a few days later the Taliban are back...the tide comes in and out..round and round and round we go where it ends nobody knows!
Just to add this bit about BarryW and the ARSSE website. I havent had time to look at it but would accept that many would rubbish Gordon Brown but isnt that the usual herd thing as often seen on internet message boards. In a years time if DCameron gets in he will be getting the same kind of kicking. Its what some of these websites do! Cameron wont be immune from a lashing. The knockers are not politically aware. Its just knocking for knockings sake.

08:0328265Keith - I have answered that in other threads. You will have to get used to having MPs who are individuals and who speak out. The next Parliament will not be full of clones like the present one. This is the real difference between the Party of the collective (Labour) and the Party of the individual (Conservative). I am very sure that the public dont want a bunch of clones any more.

You are so wrong, labour dont have clones and many do speak out.
problem they have is getting messages across
Mandleson used to be so disliked(im no fan of his) but he has learnt to mellow down and be more approachable
JOHNSON
Always on the box, and a very good outspoken person loved by many
just a few of many

21:5228348i think that post 20 from posh barry says it all about the afghan situation.
poor people cannot afford to be picky about what crops they grow, i can hardly see them considering organic brussel sprouts.
the society is governed by a feudal system, war lords will always remain.
the government in kabul is just a front that recieves money from gullible western governments.
what did paul b say about the electoral turnout?
people were walking around kabul with hundreds of voting slips well in advance of the election.
